One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been. As Mr. Lee has a Korean family background, his cooking has authentic Korean taste with great harmony with American Southern dish.

Southern food:
-The corn bread comes with brown butter, and the brown butter just let me mouth open with surprising great rich flavor.
-the pork ribs comes with coleslaw. Very juicy and tender pork ribs. Coleslaw was the best one I’ve ever tried, cleaning up the oiliness that ribs have though it’s not strong anyway. The dirty rice comes with them is seasoned with tomato base, and it’s amazing.

Korean infused:
I am not sure he intended, but the bok choy comes with Today’s caught reminded me of my Korean grandma who is the best cook I’ve ever seen. My grandma used to cook sidedish with cabbage, steamed gently and season with salt, garlic, hint of doen-jang (similar to miso, but Korean version). The bok choy is perfectly cooked (not too much, not too little), crispy but soft.

I will definitely come back here. I am glad that I get to know him through Netflix show “Culinary Class War,” and found this restaurant.

PS. for dinner, you’d better make a reservation!

고마워요. 또 올게요 🙂

After leaving NY, I traveled to Maryland to visit sis for a few days. Our adventures always center around food and this trip would be no different. Our first experience the day after I arrived was Mr. Lee’s Succotash Prime restaurant. I wondered about a cuisine that fused Korean and Southern foodstuffs. But, honey chile, let me tell you that is a happy marriage. I wish we could have eaten one of everything, if what we had was any representation of how the rest of the menu tasted. We had the deviled eggs with both options, one with pickled green tomatoes and the other with bacon jam. The specialties were on the bottom of the egg white bowl with the whipped yolks on top. There was no favorite — they were both excellent. We also ordered the smoked chicken wings. Unlike any I have had before, these wings were brined, smoked and fried for a crispy finish. Usually with this much handling the flesh of the wings will suffer. Not so with these. The brine was a flavor note, the smoke was subtle and the crisp was just enough so that the meat stayed tender and succulent. This can only be achieved by someone who is an expert at handling flesh. They were set atop a companion sauce that was like a white barbecue. Amazing! We also ordered the fried green tomato salad that had the tomatoes on the bottom with a frisée salad atop. The tomatoes were perfectly crispy and meaty at the same time. We, of course, ordered the greens with kimchi and smoked turkey. The greens were not quite as silky as I would cook them, but the flavors were all there and the pot likker was well seasoned in the tradition of the southern kitchen. Lastly (and sadly because we couldn’t eat more), we ordered the blackened trout sandwich. It did not disappoint. The fish did not suffer from being too “blackened”. It sat atop a Sally Lund bread which is tender but had enough structure to hold up to the flaky, tender fish, the caper aioli, and the apple frisée salad. Every part of the sandwich was seasoned, including the apple slices that were pickled. All of the flavors stood up on their own but worked well together as a symphony of tastes. But my review of the place and the food would not be complete without commenting on the staff. Our wait person, Kevin, was grace under exacting instructions about our meal (sis has a food allergy). He went back and forth several times to provide assurance that what we ordered would not be a risk to her allergic condition. And the front-of-house manager checked in several times to make certain we were satisfied and had everything we desired. Well done SUCCOTASH. We’ll be back and do our best to inspire others to come.

Southern food with an Asian twist.
The restaurant is beautiful and not overly loud. We enjoyed being at the restaurant. Edward Lee has his own little bar on the top floor that is a more quiet and dark bar compared to the rest of the restaurant.
The service was excellent, we were seated immediately and were checked on often. Never had to wait for anything.
The food was excellent! Chicken and waffles were beautiful. The dirty chicken was exactly that, dirty as can be but so tasty. It was basically korean fried chicken and was to die for. The catfish was good but not as good as the other plates. The shrimp and grits were excellent and cooked to perfection. Don’t remember how many shrimp were on the plate but they were cooked perfectly and it was plenty of food. Our favorite appetizer was the crab dip!
Succotash is a fun upscale asian inspired southern cooking restaurant. Will definitely be back.
If you enjoy drinking bourbon, chef lee has a huge list of bourbon at this restaurant. His flights are also very affordable!
I didn’t give this restaurant 5 stars because there’s definitely better restaurants out there but this place is still top notch. Will be going back

Succotash has by far some of the best employees my family and I have had the chance to dine with! Our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable, and ensured to make the dining experience unique and one that we will never forget! The food is equal to the quality of service, absolutely astounding! My wife and I tried the “Taste the South” meal which I would recommend to everyone! It gives you a little of everything Chef Lee has to offer while still being well within a great price for the food and experience! The kids menu covers just about everything a kid could want without being overwhelming. If you haven’t tried this place yet GET THERE YESTERDAY!

The waiter was very kind and I recommend not ordering a lot of food but all the food is good. I like how it mixes Korean food and southern food.

Mr. Lee’s is a speakeasy-like hideaway on the second floor of Succotash. It has a modern Asian fusion menu and an extensive cocktail list. Beers include a range of local craft options. Wine is from Virginia, California, and Europe along with a limited selection of sake. The happy hour is available 4-7pm daily, including drink specials and inexpensive chicken wings and dumplings.

The only reason I’m giving them 2 stars because the quality of customer service from hobie was superb but the food was blah blah blah. Flavorless and lacked finest. I won’t be back unless a experienced chef is cooking.

The building is beautiful, the food is delicious and our server LB was amazing. Very attentive, knowledgeable and good company. My husband and I did the taste of the South which is 6 course tasting. 100% worth it. Portions were larger than expected and all the food was incredible. Our waiter LB was able to tell us exactly how everything was made even down to the cocktails. Highly recommend.

The food and drinks were so good. The chicken wings were exceptional, the crispy green beans delightful, the cornbread was good and the bacon jam deviled egg was really tasty. The Sangria was excellent and the belle’s punch quite delicious. I’d say my bartender was a touch inattentive, but otherwise, must visit.
