Let me begin by saying that the food was good.
My wife and I were staying at the adjacent Wyndam hotel and received a coupon for $15 off at Mr.Edds Southern Creole Kitchen upon check-in so we decided to give it a shot. The coupon card was included with our key packet. We told our waitress when we were sat that we would be utilizing the coupon. When the check came it showed that a $15 credit however $18% gratuity was added. I found that odd for a party of two. I asked the manager about it and she told me that gratuity is automatically added to a customers check that uses the discount card from the hotel. Considering that neither the Wyndam Hotel nor restaurant inform the customer about this “policy” before hand verbally or in writing I found it to be extremely shady.
I told the manager to take off the $15 dollar credit & the 18% auto gratuity. We got our dessert to go, paid the bill, tipped the waitress 35% and left.
I understand that NOLA is a known tourist trap. I do not believe that situation is due to a corporate policy (ED has several resturaunts in the French Quarter), but a shifty manager bilking tourists. Maybe dealing with that type of situation is the cost of doing business in New Orleans. Decide for yourself if it is worth it to you. We won’t be back.

Mr. Ed’s food is fantastic. We had the Royal breakfast. It came with , sausage, eggs any way you like, cheese grits and some seasoned home fries. Gurl that breakfast was something else, oh and we had a Mimosas and A Bellini. We get a $15 discount because we stay at The Wyndham Hotel. The hotel is next door. I definitely recommend Mr. ED’S.

The Crawfish Bread was amazing. I also had the Fried Shrimp Po Boy. I definitely crave more of the Crawfish Bread. The Shrimp Po Boy was one of the best I’ve had. My fiance had the Pork Chop with Red Beans and Rice. She really loved the Red Beans. The waiter was friendly and attentive. Overall a great experience.

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel. It has a wonderful design and a great ambience. The menu is very good with plenty of seafood options. They seem to have an sense of bar. Also, I got the seafood platter which they let me do half shrimp and half oysters with fries. The only thing missing was anything green. I should’ve asked if a salad or coleslaw came with it. There are plenty of condiments on the table. TVs are displayed all around the bar showing different sports. Server was wonderful and very attentive. It’s such a fun area of New Orleans.

The gumbo here was ok, it didn’t have the depth and flavor as our favorite Cajun restaurant down the street. Our waitress was really nice but kept getting our order wrong. We placed an order to-go and they brought it out on a plate to our table after we already finished eating. I ordered the creole gumbo which was supposed to have chicken, sausage, crawfish and shrimp but I’m sure they gave me the chicken and sausage gumbo since there was no seafood in it. Oysters were probably the best part of our meal, if we were to ever come back we’ll def order that again. It was also kinda hard to flag down people even though it wasn’t that crowded that night. They also automatically charge you a 18% gratuity which was kinda weird since I only ever seen that on large parties and it was only my wife and me eating that night. I was planning on leaving a larger tip but if they already charged me then I’ll just leave it as is.

Charbroiled oysters were delicious. Overall, I like that they aren’t afraid of salt. The vanilla ice cream was great…much better than the peach cobbler it came with which was kind of an overly sweet, sloppy, goopy mess.

I came in from out of town from Georgia and we were recommended to try Mr. Ed’s. There are different chains of it, but this one is the best. The staff were friendly. Food being A1 and a nice atmosphere. After trying the gumbo and jambalaya at other near by places. This scratched that itch me and my friend as looking for. Highly recommend to eat here if you are first time traveling to this area!!
