wonderful food only outdone by the exceptional and attentive service. Don’t miss the eggplant fries, a unique twist, softer and more tender than a zucchini fry. excellent!!

I’ve been to 4 Mr Ed’s over the decade. This one is good I prefer the others.
My pictures stink but oh well. The oyster and shrimp platter felt a lot smaller than the other 3x I’ve ordered it. Tasty shrimp and oysters with potato salad.
The shrimp cocktail, good.
The lemon pie is good. 3.5 star out of 5 but I can see why some ppl might like it more than us. The chocolate mousse is 3.5 star, very reminiscent of Cosby’s inexpensive pudding…so meh.
Overall, very good service. Food decent 3.5/4 star. I was hoping they had the chargrilled oysters and wedge salad but both items were not there like the old Midcity place and the former W Esplanade / Clearview location, respectively.

My hood!! I love this place literally walking distance from my pad. Always great service and that red sauce is fire!! The Fried calamari is my go-to here, as well as the fried shrimp, the turtle soup, the onion rings, the poboys and the meatballs!! Great crispy garlic French bread for soaking up the goodness!! Awesome crew here too!!

Last night we had a very disappointing experience at Mr. Ed’s (1001 Live Oak, Metairie).
The restaurant was completely full, yet there appeared to be a very limited number of servers working. As a result, the service was extremely slow from start to finish. We were patient and understanding at first, given how busy it was, but the issues continued throughout the evening.
When our food finally arrived — after a very long wait — it came out at room temperature. There was no explanation from our waiter, no apology, and no sense of urgency. His attitude made the situation worse. He seemed disengaged, unhappy to be there, and visibly disappointed when he realized our large table was not ordering alcoholic beverages. It was painfully obvious that because our ticket total (and likely his tip percentage) would be lower, we were treated as less important guests.
No customer should ever feel like their value is determined by how much alcohol they order.
To make matters worse, there was no manager anywhere to be found to address the delays or the food quality issues. Meanwhile, the cook was outside having a loud, casual phone conversation while food was slow coming out of the kitchen. That level of unprofessionalism only added to the frustration.
The waiter was a poor representation of the establishment, and the overall operation last night was chaotic and poorly managed. Mr. Ed should be embarrassed by how his restaurant was running.
Unfortunately, this experience left us feeling unwelcome and disappointed. We expected much better.

Mr Ed’s is good old fashioned Buck town NOLA style eats! You will never be dissatisfied by the good food. Italian, seafood and great drinks. Our waitress was delightful! We will be back!

August 2025: I came in on a Saturday for lunch and was immediately asked if I was there to pick up an order. I was not and said that I was hoping to dine there. The hostess got up from her chair that she was sitting in and walked me over to a table. My drink order was placed for a sweet tea. I was brought an unsweetened tea and it wasn’t until after I took a sip that there was stuff floating in the cup. It could have been harmless, but I don’t know. I ordered the salmon with potatoes and vegetables. It came with a salad that was a small tomato cut in half, one slice of a cucumber and the rest iceberg lettuce. The salmon was good, but there was a weird skin over the warmed up butter, like they had prepared it hours earlier and didn’t bother to stir it before bringing it out. The peanut butter pie was the best part of the whole meal. Everything seemed to be neat and clean. Prices are a bit higher than I remember from my last visit.
2019: Small parking lot. Friendly wait staff. Good food served hot.

I have bragged on Mr Ed’s fried chicken forever, love the kenner location, however this location. The chicken was not good. It tasted like old oil, and the flavor was not there. I still love Mr Ed’s, the server was great, the atmosphere lively and welcoming, but I will stick to my kenner location for chicken from now on.

Mr Ed’s on Live Oak in Metairie never disappoints. Comfort food that is always consistent. I thoroughly enjoy the chicken Parmesan. Entrees come with a side salad. They make their own salad dressings fresh, in house. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable and the wait staff are attentive and friendly.

This is a local spot with great flair. The food portions are huge, so you might think about sharing. This is an Italian restaurant with a Cajun flair. So yummy. I had fried pork chop and red beans.
They hit the nail right on the head.

Mr. Ed’s is legendary and well known for its service and southern Louisiana menu options. Mary Contrary servicing the restaurant for 10 years was 5 stars. If I could rate more I would. The food is tasty and well seasoned in medium way to service all guest spiciness level’s. Would recommend. It’s the casual style of Commanders when it comes to true dining. Located on ground level. Wait to be seated.
