The Founders Brothers Ari and Andrew Cohen, born and raised in Berkeley, CA, are the creators and co-founders of Mr Dewie’s cashew milk ice cream, founded in 2011. Their mission was to make a creamy, rich, and delicious ice cream that also met their personal dietary needs of being free of dairy, gluten, and soy. It was important to them to keep it local, and to use only natural, organic and healthy ingredients. No fillers, additives, preservatives, gums, or oils — truly homemade!

Bright, charming cafe for vegan, non-dairy cashew milk ice cream made with organic ingredients.

Rich and creamy non-dairy ice cream.

I had a scoop of chocolate orange chip ice cream and it was delicious. It didn’t have a weird texture or look strange. The prices are pretty reasonable and they do have napkins. Overall, this is a great place to get not just a vegan dessert, but a great dessert.

Cashew milk-based ice cream with an option for a gluten-free come (in addition to gluten-full cones). Great options for those who are vegan, lactose intolerant, or otherwise dairy-free. (Obviously not for those with cashew/nut allergies.) Super creamy texture, lots of delicious-sounding flavors. I tried the caramel almond which the lady behind the counter said was the most popular, but I also tried the mocha chip which was her personal favorite – and I preferred the mocha chip, and got a scoop of that! A nice treat when visiting The Public Market!

Cashew ice cream?? Yes please!! I I’m always up for trying anything and everything, including non-dairy ice creams, but this place will actually make a convert out of anyone, including people that are diehard dairy eaters. My 13-year-old son was really skeptical, but I convince him to try it, and he loved it! This place is terrific, I highly recommend.

Dairy free ice cream for the win. It’s on the inside of the marketplace, right outside of Peet’s coffee back entrance, close to the restrooms. Fantastic clerk working very helpful and pleasant! Loved how much my pumpkin ice cream was creamy and tasted like pie.

We always stop here at Mr Dewie’s when we’re in the area. The ice cream is very delicious and creamery. We had the Caramel Almond Crunch and the Chocolate Orange Chip and Maple Walnut flavors.

Dewie’s ice cream uses cashew in their ice cream which makes it stand out from other ice creams. The ice cream is very delicious and creamy especially with the sugar cone, adding a nice crunchiness. I’ve seen the reviews saying that it tastes amazing but I never expected the ice cream here to taste more than ever fabulous. Definitely a must go dessert shop.

Do NOT order PINTS here. This ice cream is fantastic. Great for a scoop or three, but the pints are hand packed very light. See pics for “14 ounce” pints weighing 11.4 and 11.8 ounces, including the container. A huge bummer at $13/pint. The scoops in a cup that the person before me in line got looked very generous. I’d go that route if you want some awesome cashew ice cream.

Good flavor choices and quality. I chose chocolate and coffee flavors. It is much different than traditional ice cream, which is made out of dairy (milk). This place uses cashew milk. Unfortunately the ice cream leaves a dry taste in your mouth due to the lack of dairy. If you aren’t a fan of the dry aftertaste or are allergic to nuts/cashew, you will need to consider alternatives.

We arrived right at closing time – three eager munchkins and four desperate adults. Charlotte to the rescue, she stayed late to serve us with such kindness and warmth. The coffee and mint flavors were absolutely delicious! Her exceptional customer service made our visit special; she saved the night. Highly recommend Mr. Dewie’s, and of course, thank you, Charlotte!
