Tucked away in the Northwest corner of Reno on Sharlands Avenue, Moxie’s Spirits & Dining has quietly earned its reputation as a reliable neighborhood staple since opening its doors in 2005. Just off Robb Drive, this locally owned gem combines the feel of a friendly tavern with the polish of a full-service restaurant, making it a versatile choice for both casual lunches and laid-back evenings out.
The ambiance is welcoming, with a dedicated dining area perfect for families and a separate adults-only bar for those looking to unwind. In the warmer months, their dog-friendly garden patio is a lovely spot to relax and enjoy the fresh Nevada air.
Moxie’s menu leans into comforting American classics with just enough creativity to keep things interesting. Highlights include the Brie Burger with fig jam—a standout for its sweet and savory balance—and the grilled salmon tacos, which are light yet flavorful. Dinner options like the tri-tip kabobs and shrimp scampi round out a solid list of hearty entrees, while the bar offers a strong cocktail lineup featuring house favorites like the MOXIE Cocktail and the Queen Mary Bloody Mary.
One thing guests should be aware of is the presence of a smoking section within the bar. While the restaurant has done its best to separate and ventilate the space, a faint smell of smoke does carry into parts of the dining area at times. It doesn’t detract from the food or the service, but it’s something to consider depending on your sensitivity.
Overall, Moxie’s Spirits & Dining is a dependable go-to for Reno locals—comfortable, unpretentious, and always welcoming. Whether you’re stopping in for a casual dinner or meeting friends for drinks, Moxie’s offers a consistent, satisfying experience in a relaxed, neighborhood setting.

The food just wasn’t great, and the service seemed a bit off that evening. It was hard to tell if they were short-staffed, but several employees appeared to be standing around while things lagged a bit. The dining area had a noticeable smell of smoke, and the bathrooms definitely needed some attention.
I usually try to find a few positives to balance things out, but this time I really couldn’t. Hopefully, it was just an off night—for the sake of the staff and the restaurant.

Ordered from here several times for takeout and the food is good. However, I had two dine-in experiences here and both left something to be desired. The first was several months ago and the service was ridiculously slow. This seemed to be an issue between the waiter and kitchen staff. I returned again to dine-in more recently, thinking the first was just bad luck. They claim to be open until at least midnight, but we got there a little before 9 and they closed the kitchen because they said there wasn’t that much business. Closing on a whim because you’re not getting much business is no reason to change hours on the spot when you feel like it. These two experiences will make me think twice about even getting takeout there again and definitely do not recommend for dine-in.

What great little find! I had a prime rib dip that was one of the best ever! The fries and onion rings were terrific, fresh and hot! Hubs had a chili cheeseburger that he devoured. Good service, great food, reasonably priced! Highly recommend you try it if you’re in the area!

We had a large group. 18 people. They had no trouble accommodating us, but we also had made reservations ahead of time.

All the food was very delicious, healthy, and bountiful. Only problem was the fried chicken with honey mustard was fried too long and the breading was thick and hard did not taste good, but the chicken inside was tender.
The teryaki bowls and salads were amazing. Tri tip and salmon was great.
Was quite expensive. Would say somewhat worth the money because of the quality.
Server was outstanding.
But when we came inside it was empty and that confused us.

The servers were very attentive. The atmosphere was nice. The food was good. The food did take a bit longer than expected. Prices were a bit high for the amount and quality of food. In my opinion.

Honestly just sad. If I could give this place one star I definitely would. The food was horrible and a horrible experience. We got here and got our orders taken immediately. We then sat there for over an hour waiting for out food. After about an hour and a half I told the waitress I was leaving because I needed to go to work. She assured us that the food was almost ready. I told her I didn’t have time to eat it so she made it to go. She then charged us for everything, including the drinks that we didn’t get to drink with out meal. I ordered buffalo wings with are pretty hot. And I got charged for a drink that I didn’t get to have with my meal. Honestly preposterous. So I finally sat down to eat my COLD wings. And 2 of them were RAW! Are you kidding me! This place was horrible. 0/10 recommend. Do not waste your money here!

Why, yes! That IS a burger done medium rare, as ordered! There are plenty of burger joints in town, but most can’t tell medium rare from medium well (or leather, for that matter). It was so refreshing to order a burger and actually get it cooked/severed the way I asked for it. Service was friendly and incredibly quick. We will definitely be coming back!

We stopped by for lunch on Sunday afternoon, expecting to sit outside. The minute I opened the outside door, the cigarette smoke slammed me in the face. It was absolutely disgusting. I thought maybe it was just a foyer that had the smoke so I opened the second door to go into the dining area. There’s no distinction between the dining area and the bar and the entire place smells like a dirty ashtray. All I could think about was the dishes and silverware coated in nicotine. I was no longer hungry so we left.
