The food is absolutely delicious, with bold and unique flavors that really stand out. Portions are on the smaller side, so it’s more about quality and taste than quantity. The cocktails are amazing and very well crafted, but they are definitely on the pricey side. Overall, a great spot for a cozy night out with great food, drinks, and ambiance.
Poor service started when making a reservation – I was asked if I’d be celebrating anything special… i indicated that it was my wife’s and my wedding anniversary. I don’t expect anything for free but If an establishment asks and knows there’s a special celebration I do hope that they at least say “congratulations” or acknowledge it with a card, many places send out a small appetizer, a little bubbles, or a classic dessert… Staff at Movida did absolutely none of that. I thought it was odd but I wouldn’t have left a poor review solely because of that…
Our server’s name was Jeremy. We asked him for water 4 times before he brought any. He took our order and never checked up on us, I saw him at other tables but not ours. Then, he just disappeared. I found out from the other staff that he had finished his shift. He didn’t tell us and no one else stopped by. We had to flag people down to get any service. And the host and/or manager tried to help but I asked her for something and she said “wait” and walked out of the building for various minutes. We didn’t get to order the extra plate we wanted and got my second drink way too late.
Very disappointed. I might be back because food was good but I’d sit at the bar in hopes that the bar staff is more attentive.
Portions could’ve been bigger for price but quality / seasoning makes up for it!
Drinks were exceptional !
Items ordered :
Bone marrow : 10/10
Corn ribs : 10/10
Chips and dip : 9/10 (walnut dip was sweeter than anticipated and not as spicy as I wanted )
Birria tostada : 9/10 , could’ve been on two tostadas rather than one big one , made the center get soggy by the time you could eat it and cutting into a tostada isn’t ideal
Drinks :
Leon y sol : 10/10
Something Rosas : 10/10
Something Flor : 10/10
Special recognition : Norberto (he was barback /busser ) was super attentive , great service !
Thanks !
The cocktails were particularly impressive — rather than relying on excessive alcohol, sugar, and ice, as many establishments do, the mixologists here demonstrated real craftsmanship in the selection and blending of ingredients. I ordered a cocktail infused with گل گاوزبان which was absolutely outstanding.
The portion sizes were generous enough for one person, though I highly recommend ordering a few appetizers as well; they were not only delicious but also added to the overall experience. The special fries we ordered were especially memorable.
The service was warm and attentive throughout the evening. As a lovely surprise, the staff offered complimentary shots to celebrate my friend’s birthday, which made the night even more special.
Each dish was beautifully plated and served at exactly the right moment, enhancing the dining experience.
Without a doubt, I look forward to returning to this restaurant many times in the future.
That said the setting is pretty cool, the food is beautiful and quite contemporary, we had a selection of sharables but should have choosen more. The pomegranate chicken wings were Devine. Mains chilli and lamb dish was as good as I have eaten and all other in the party loves theirs.
Topped off with delightful and helpful staff, the lady front of house is very invested in her work Shima or something,
1 regret sampled more of the sharables….
Overall a great restaurant!
The food was hit or miss. The bone marrow and fries were disappointing—both pretty average. On the brighter side, the chile dish stood out, and the pomegranate tostada was enjoyable, though not exceptional. Overall, the atmosphere and food didn’t quite live up to expectations.
P.S. The cocktails were nit bad either.
The food impressed as well. My Persian tomato omelette offered stewed tomatos with leeks, chorizo, queso Oaxaca, herbs, avocado, and barbari flatbread. The seasoning impressed me most, providing lively & smoky notes to complement the eggs.
My husband had the chilaquiles covered with a tomatillo and green plum salsa, over easy eggs, labneh, avocado, cotija cheese, pickled onions, and cilantro. The one bite I had felt amped up to a new flavor level with the extra depth from plum.
A friend had a really nice brioche french toast dipped in saffron and rose batter, covered in cinnamon and sugar, and topped with pistachio powder and sour cherry jam. It maintained a nice crunch from the batter yet had that fluffy french toast texture down. Cherry and pistachio were light but welcome.
I’d definitely go back, though it is mildly annoying that they have a dress code, which I’m not sure is actually enforced, so why bother? However, it’s very welcome that they take reservations for brunch! Regardless, would be happy to try a full-strength cocktail and dinner plates to get more of their layered flavors.
