We were excited to try this place for the first time, but after waiting about 20 minutes without seeing a server, we had to ask around for help. It was disappointing to see another couple who arrived after us get served right away. The server we asked did end up helping us, but I did expect a manager to come over and at least apologize—unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
The food was not bad and definitely tasted made to order, though the jambalaya was a little dry. The restaurant was pretty loud, which is expected. On a positive note, the server we ended up with was very nice. Overall, I will not be returning.
Another frustrating issue was with the entrées: you cannot choose both mashed potatoes and grits as sides, and this is not clearly stated on the menu. There’s no clarification about this, which was disappointing. This is something the owner may want to consider changing or clearly communicating.

Wow just wow! The service was so quick and there was live music being played as well. Our waiter was very attentive and explained everything since it was our first time here. I ordered the shrimp and grits and my husband ordered off of their lunch menu and had their stack house burger. Will definitely be going back as their drink menu looked delicious

My wife had the Kickin Chicken, one of her staple favorites there. I tried one of the Valentine’s Day Specials which was Blackened Red Snapper which was pretty good, but very salty. It was garnished with too much salt on the top. Great flavor, but with the bloody Mary salted glass I’ll probably wake up like a swollen balloon (LOL). I say give it a try, but ask them to not salt it and use table salt if you think it needs more.

First time for us, table of six. We were all very happy with what we ordered. When in doubt, order a Po Boy. The deserts were great. Some of the best service you can find in Omaha. If you have not been, it’s worth it.

Chef’s kiss!!! This food is spectacularly delicious! The perfect combination of spices and textures! We started off with the Boudin Balls appetizer that had the perfect amount of kick. I had the blackened salmon and mixed veggies and my husband had the smokepit. I knew I would not have enough on for the jambalaya and bread pudding so I ordered them to take home.
Great atmosphere! Music was moving and the perfect volume that didn’t take away from our conversation. The service was on point! The manager stopped by to make sure the food and service was to our liking. There were three seasoned shrimp on my salmon but they were eaten before I took the picture. I highly recommend Mouth of the South!

I don’t generally like to leave negative reviews, but this is one of those times where I needed to. I wanted to start off by saying that our service and waiter, Connor (I believe that’s how you spell his name) was amazing. He was funny and was super attentive to our table. The atmosphere was decent, but was a little odd with the artwork they chose. The food wasn’t the best. We both ordered the whiskey ribeye medium rare and one was medium while the other one was more well done. The steaks were super super sweet and you could barely taste that rich, steak flavor. The vegetable and mashed potatoes were delicious though, as was the side of Mac and cheese. Overall, we weren’t too satisfied with the food being our first time there, and how much they were charging for the meal, but overall the service was great.

Mouth of the South is located at Lakeside Shops off 168th St just North of Center St. This was my first time visiting Mouth of the South. I was impressed Friendly and courteous staff . Nice selection of menu items I enjoyed the casual atmosphere, real Southern, kind of like a New Orleans Mardi Gras setting and decor matching Plenty of free parking, including handicap ♿️ spaces. Both indoor and outdoor seating available.

Just moved to Nebraska from Louisiana last week and besides snow, the only thing I was concerned about is getting good food. Welp, I was not disappointed and this taste like home! I was pleasantly surprised!

Ended up getting the southern fish and chips, and it was fantastic! Catfish was flakey and well seasoned, and the remoulade sauce on top added just the right amount of tang. The fries were super crispy and cooked to near perfection. Only complaint is that this place doesn’t allow any substitutions at all which is a major bummer. But the food is still super tasty and our waitress was extremely nice!

We came in for Valentines Day and had their brunch. We got the crab cakes benedict and the seafood florentine dip. It was all delicious and generous portions, enough for us to share and be full! They had live music that was so well done we thought it was the radio, but not super loud and invasive, perfect volume! Staff was nice and accommodating, service was quick and done very well! Looking forward to coming here again!
