With both The Portuguese House and Tall Trees fully booked, we looked for a top-rated alternative and landed on Mottbora Sushi, which holds a 4.5-star rating. While the restaurant itself is clean and the staff were welcoming and kind, the food unfortunately fell short of our expectations.
We started with edamame and seaweed salad, which were both fresh and enjoyable. However, the tempura shrimp and calamari were a letdown. The shrimp lacked flavor, and the calamari was more like deep-fried batter than true tempura—possibly made from frozen.
As a sushi lover, I had high hopes, but the sushi itself was just okay. Not bad, but certainly not memorable or worth a return visit.
If you’re serious about your sushi or looking for a standout culinary experience, I’d suggest reading individual, recent reviews rather than relying on the overall rating. Taste is subjective, but for us, the search for exceptional food in Huntsville continues.

First started by takeout and they were lovely. The younger girl at the front was so sweet. Then came back with my child and the service was so great and the food was unforgettable. Friendly environment that we will make sure we become regulars.

Friendly atmosphere as soon as we walked in the door. Great selection many options to choose from. Quick service with a smile. It was so good, sorry you’re only getting half of a picture. We got the chicken teriyaki roll, tuna roll, white tuna sushi, and the mango roll. Might just have to place the same order again for dinner tonight!

We visited here for lunch today and it was lovely! The food was fairly priced, fresh, beautifully presented and SOO satisfying. To drink I ordered the Japanese yogurt drink. I forgot to take a picture but it’s a must try! The service was fast and our server was very attentive. He even kindly put a napkin under my 16mo plate and brought out scissors with his meal so I could cut it up for him . HEART WARMING!! Coming from a sushi snob and lover, I would highly recommend this place for a sushi lunch in Huntsville. 10/10

This was our first visit and we were super excited to find a restaurant that serves fresh, beautiful Sushi! The Rolls are great for sharing – great portions and very flavourful. We were also lucky enough to be there on the first day of their dine-in reopening – a must visit!

Was there with family (5) of us , food was very good , fresh, good portions , service was extremely friendly, fast and attentive.
My kids said was best sushi ever….and we do go to alot of sushi restaurants.

Sushi was ok very pricy for what you get. Was disappointed that we ordered 4 rolls and only got a tiny bit of wasabe. I guess I should have checked the takeout order before I left but for $70 for 4 rolls (my 15 year old and I finished everything so not a lot of food) I would expect more than a tiny bit of wasabe. Seems cheap. Pretty disappointing.

At first glance I expected to be disappointed. The decor was casual, the seating small and a bit awkward The menu was laid out like a traditional restaurant listing rolls as entrees. Selection in comparison to most was less than what I would expect (no hand rolls?), pricing a mix of lower cost items and surprisingly high cost items.
When the meal arrived I was pleasantly surprised. The quality of sushi was high. Well formed and neat rice rolls, fresh avocado and fish, well packed shredded crab, neatly presented and well sized. All the items tasted wonderful and the provided condiments were adequate, well spiced and plentiful. Although I was not provided with a pot of house tea, the green tea that I purchased was of an exceptional quality tasting similar to matcha and the server refreshed my mug frequently.
Total experience, 6 rolls, 6 pieces of tempura vegetables and 4 pieces of tempura crab sticks; $110 with tip for lunch: pricy but fortunately of good quality. Would have been better with some complementary miso and tea.
