We had a lovely dinner at Mother India! It was a recommendation from a taxi driver and we were grateful to give it a try. The tapas style was great to try more things. My husband and I were pretty hungry and ordered 4 dishes and naan with one side of rice. The order of rice was a bit small for us Americans. I was also very happy to see monkfish tikka on the menu, it was so tasty with an Indian flare. The lamb chops were also delicious along with the butter chicken and chicken tikka masala. Highly recommend!

This restaurant draged us in because of the smells. We got a table even though we didn’t make a reservation! The food was delicious but spicy for my tastes . After talking to the waiter, he told us that we took the mildest dishes. The prices are a bit expensive but it’s ok. We took the chicken with mango and coconut and the butter chicken. The butter chicken was the spicy one! We also got the potatoes (hash browns) with different chutneys and a cheese bread, both were delicious!

We visited Edinburgh last week, this place was recommended by my Indian colleague, and we went there twice! Every dish was just fantastic, love the idea of tapas – that gave us the chance to try different varieties! And Good service. Wish we had such a place in the town I am living now…

I visited Mother India Café and was quite disappointed. The food did not taste like authentic Indian food and the overall quality was not good. Based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking for good Indian cuisine.

This is the biryani they server its just the rice and no masala they serve wrong food not as per the menu

Good range of options on the menu (surprised there was only one paneer option) but everything was bang on – especially the naan and lamb karahi. Curry portions a little small but with the sides was perfect. Reasonably priced, would recommend

We chose this place because of its proximity to the Festival Theatre, and it is ideal for pre-theatre dining. The restaurant was busy at 6pm.
Service was reasonably good, but did feel staff could’ve been more attentive.
The dishes are tapas size, but there was no explanation from staff about how many dishes to order (it does state this on the menu, but other places we’ve been to with this range have asked if we’ve eaten there before, and if not, explained how the tapas menu works).
We chose aubergine and potato, lamb keema mutter, machi massala (fish) and a naan. All were hot and tasty. The naan was not as puffy as most though. This was enough food for us, and it wasn’t heavy like some Indian food. I would go back.

Most of the menu is gluten free, we had vegetables bakkora which was amazing highly recommended!! one of the best bakora I’ve ever had. we also had king prawns chili which was really disappointing, it was cooked too much so it was hard to eat. For main dishes we had chicken biryani it sticky and saucy so it was average, we also had butter chicken and garlic and chili chicken and basmati rice which were veryyyy good, however, the garlic chili chicken was very spicy for those who are not a big fan of spicy food.
Also note that the dishes considered small.

Went today with a friend, food was average flavour wise but not even good average, just average. It was “Indian” touristy food, suitable for the average tourist and potentially locals who want to try new food and won’t know the difference between a good and slurry curry. I wouldn’t go again ofc. Also, the portion size is nothing short of a joke, £40 for two people and we both went afterwards for a local bite from a food chain, lol!
