Very unique pizza at Mother Bear’s. I haven’t tried pizza quite like this anywhere else. The pan pizza is like an intermediate between a regular thick-crust and deep dish. You get a thick, rich crust with lots of toppings piled on and cheese all the way to the crust, crisped up around the edges. It’s indulgent but very tasty. I can normally eat a 10” pizza by myself for dinner no problem, but I cannot easily finish a 10” Mother Bear’s pan pizza in one sitting because they’re pretty loaded. They have several interesting pizzas on their menu, or you can create your own pizza, and they also welcome modifications to menu pizzas (some places limit substitutions, but I’ve done a handful of changes here without getting a hard time – ordered a cosmo pizza with dairy-free mozzarella instead of regular, no sausage or bacon, added onions, and I regularly switch out the mozzarella for the dairy-free). The toasted ravioli and garlic knots are delicious. I also think the goldfish (the crackers) in the salads are fun. They do have some other meals on the menu besides pizza which I will try one of these days but for now I keep coming back to the pizza because it’s so satisfying.
The service is not as good as the pizza. The main issue is it’s just slow often, whether it’s servers telling you “I’ll be right back” and then taking 10+ minutes to be back or delays from the kitchen. I advise deciding what to order quickly so that you’re ready to go when the waiter asks the first time and don’t have to ask them for a few more minutes because the “few more minutes” could be more than a few, and in general just don’t come here for a quick meal. They’ve also been very inconsistent when I’ve come here with big groups on what the rules are for split checks. I’ve been told in a group of 12 they can only split 8 ways, but then they split for all of us individually when we just asked nicely, another time with a similarly large group it was max 5 ways, and another time no limit on splits. The waiters are not rude or anything, but they just seem disorganized.
The vibe is very much a college town hangout spot, but family-friendly. There’s writing all over the walls but I haven’t noticed anything objectionable. The style of the building is cool and most of the booths/tables feel secluded which is nice.

Always a good stop in Bloomington. Honestly though, probably the best pizza I’ve ever had there. Only knock may have been the wait for food but they were busy so absolutely no reason for this review to lose any stars. If I could do it, the review would be 99.99/100.

I went to grad school in Bloomington and this place is phenomenal. The atmosphere and service are fine (nothing to write home about) but the pizza…still some of the best in the country. I recommend the Divine Swine and the Cosmo, but truly EVERYTHING on the menu is top notch. Prices are fair as well. If you’re in Bloomington, go to Mother Bear’s.

Four of us stopped in for dinner on a Friday night. Seated promply and ordered mushroom appetizers and a couple of pizzas. Apmisphere was college town fun and everyone has left their mark….. on the walls! :). Food was amazing. The pizza was incredible. The service was a bit lacking as I had to track down someone to pay my bill.

We ordered a vegetarian large pizza; customized it a little with a couple added toppings. We asked for well done but it was not. The extra sauce requested was cold on top of the cheese which is kind of bizarre; it seemed that they forgot to put extra sauce as requested and ended up just smothering it on top and served it cold. Anyway, it wasn’t as good as we thought it would be but we will be back another time to give it a second go.

The girl told us 20 minutes wait time – ended up being 40 plus minutes.

I’ve been here twice and enjoyed it both times. This time I had the hot ham and cheese. Although I had no idea that they put pizza sauce on it. I wasn’t too happy because I guess I didn’t read correctly on the menu. However, the pizzas were great that we had and I was happy to have a pickle with my sandwich! I understand the parking probably cannot be helped currently with the amount of snow that you guys have, but parking probably needs to be worked on. Great place though!

Really fun place. Amazing atmosphere and service. Very much appreciated the vegan options. The strawberry lemonade was fantastic. Unfortunately I was not a fan of their pizza sauce – too over seasoned with oregano, sugar, and pepper. But overall had a great time there!

Have not been to Mother Bears pizza since leaving Indiana University in 1990. Their new location a block from original on 3rd Street did not disappoint, atmosphere was great, lively, warm and comfortable. The menu all sounded delicious but ultimately settled on half Palermo and half Deluxe pizza, great recommendation by our server Sarah, she was super nice, attentive and overall great server and service! I can’t wait to visit Bloomington and IU for another visit to Mother Bears Pizza!!

Hands down some of the best pizza I’ve tried. It reminds me of an upgraded version of the crispy pan pizza Pizza Hut used to serve before they changed their recipe. We arrived one hour into closing and the pizza still arrived hot and fresh from the oven. The cheese pull was on point, the crust perfectly toasted, and the sauce just right. The portion sizes and quality matched the price. Service was great and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. 9/10 would recommend.

If you’ve met anyone who has gone to school around Mother Bear’s Pizza then you’ve probably heard about this place. I was skeptical with how passionate they were about how good this place was, but I have to say it lived up to the hype. The pizzas were incredible. The Monet was the best white sauced pizza I’ve ever had. The pesto garlic bread was also fantastic. They have so many great pizza options, so it’s hard to go wrong. Parking kind of sucks so you might have to park a bit up the street and walk down. Definitely check this place out if you are anywhere near it.
