We have driven past this restaurant several times in the few years we’ve lived in the area, but every time we did so at meal time, found them not to be open. I think we have that sorted now (and I’m sending an update for their hours to Yelp). So, finally, we were there at the same time that they were open.

The tl;dr is that while I am not opposed to eating there again, there are a lot of better choices.

First, the good. The server was very friendly and helpful. The food arrived very quickly.

OK, with that out of the way, the merely OK (or worse).

My wife had the Southern Country Fried Steak dinner plate, with White Beans, Cole Slaw, and Mashed Potatoes (one side extra). I thought that the steak was ok, as was the mashed potatoes. My wife said that the steak should have come with white gravy. The beans, not so much. The cole slaw had some kind of flavor in it that I don’t recall ever tasting in cole slaw before, and I did not find it pleasant.

I had the “Specialty”, Open Face Roast Beef Sandwich with Mashed potatoes, Gravy, & Light Bread. Moss’s doesn’t seem to have the same concept of “Open Face” that I do, but I am not significantly opposed to having an extra slice of bread. That said, the bread was very similar to my memories of Wonder Bread, so nothing to write home about. The roast beef was fine, though a bit more on the salty side than I would like. The brown gravy was decent. The mashed potatoes, as my wife’s meal’s, were ok. And by having each bite of the sandwich include about half and half with mashed potatoes, the saltiness was mellowed out. Would I have it again? I suppose, though I might be more tempted to have something simpler, like a cheeseburger.

We had an order of Fried Corn Bread, and this came looking like some kind of corn bread pancakes. It really needed some butter. Fortunately, there was a mug labeled “Butter” on the table. Unfortunately, Moss’s opinion of what constitutes “butter” differs from mine. We took most of this home, to heat up in the toaster and slather with actual butter.

We decided that we would be unlikely to come back, unless the pie was awesome, and then mainly to get some to-go pie. So, we had to try the pie. We bought three slices: Pecan, Caramel, and Buttermilk. I didn’t care much for the Buttermilk, but my wife thought it was OK, and might have a second bite later. My wife and I agreed that the Pecan was OK, but nowhere near as good as the first Pecan Pie I ever made. And both of us thought that the Caramel pie was disgusting. Thick. Gloppy. Bad flavor. Some kind of chewy topping that reminds me of stale marshmallows.

So, if I can’t talk my group out of coming here, I’ll give a burger a try. Sure, there are plenty of ways to make a bad burger, but….

P.S. The menu, according to the server, does not apply to Sunday. On Sunday, they have a “set menu”. First and Fourth Sunday of each month are always the same (different from each other), and Second and Third Sundays of each month have whatever the chef wants to cook. If there’s ever a Fifth Sunday, have no idea what they serve. `¯_(ツ)_/¯`

Trying a new place. Nothing spectacular, very down to earth good home cooked meals. Country setting, I had the hamburger steak with mashed potatoes & coleslaw with bread and banana pudding with meringue topping. Will had country fried steak, black eyed peas, mashed potatoes & banana pudding with meringue topping. The food was good. The people were so nice. Nice atmosphere. Located in Adams, Tennessee. We will be back. I do suggest if you want free refills to get coffee or tea. Cold drinks are $1.60 per 12oz can.

We enjoy hometown diners and found a goldmine at Moss’s! I tried their homemade chicken salad, which was offered 3 ways, I chose the tomato stuffed… so delicious. I also tried out the fried apples and I was not disappointed, dessert In a cup.
Service was excellent, food was prompt and great prices.

Not sure how you manage to mess up grilled cheese but this place did. It’s all just bagged freezer food and microwaves here. My server didn’t ask any questions after I took one bite and asked for the check so I assume this is the norm for them. Also the place smelled like cigarettes.

we would never dream of being caught in this place again. we were here for a festival in town and went to this place thinking we would be getting down with some country tennessee cooking… but it was gross… i have an air fryer and Kroger brand fries at home why did i pay u to do it for me when u dont even use salt?? and u don’t keep fresh lemons to serve with water. at least they still offered us bottleed lemon juice which i should have accepted because the tap water tasted stale… GO SOMEWHERE ELSE

We found Moss’s Restaurant by happenstance. We were looking for a place to relax with a cup of coffee and pulled in at their sign. The location is a historic school building and provides a unique and interesting atmosphere. The staff is friendly and have great senses of humor. It is a very casual environment and during our visit it was clearly a favorite spot for folks to relax, visit friends and meet new people. We were inspired by the welcome vibe to order breakfast. The chicken fried steak & gravy was delicious, the onion rings were prepared with a beer batter, fresh onions and deep fried to perfection. They also serve corn bread cakes that are delicious. Overall a great experience and we will make Moss’s Restaurant one of our regular stops.
