Reviews
The Food & Drink
• Chicken Christopher: The crusted chicken was flavorful and well-prepared.
• Au Gratin Potatoes: A classic side—cheesy and dependable.
• The Bread: Always a highlight at Morton’s; warm and fresh.
• Espresso Martini: Well-balanced and a great way to kick off the night.
• The Birthday Surprise: They were kind enough to surprise me with a complimentary birthday dessert, which was a very thoughtful touch and much appreciated!
The Atmosphere & Service
• Ambiance: The noise level was moderate—loud enough to feel lively, but not so loud that we couldn’t talk.
• Service: Our waitress provided average-to-good service. She was professional, though it didn’t necessarily feel like the elevated, attentive service you’d expect at this price point.
Overall Impression
It was a good birthday experience overall, but it felt more like a standard upscale dinner than a true fine dining event. Coming from the Chicago area where the Morton’s standard is quite high, I was hoping for just a little bit more “oomph” from the SF location. It’s a decent choice, but it didn’t quite exceed expectations.
Great late night spot in the square!
My husband had the NY strip steak, I had the white wine cream sauce chicken dish. Both were done to perfection. We ordered these sides; brussel sprouts, sour cream mashed potatoes, green beans. A big, round loaf of onion bread with whipped butter was given as part of the meal. We also had the crab cake appetizer.
I don’t prefer spicy food so I asked that the Szechuan green beans not have the Szechuan sauce on them. I ordered the truffle butter to drizzle over the green beans and it was absolutely magnificent. We used a little bit on the steak and on the mashed potatoes too. We mentioned that we were going to share the wedge salad and they split it onto separate plates for us. It was so good! The portions are all large enough to share between two people. We had the berries and whipped cream for dessert and it came with a little happy birthday chocolate on it and a candle. What a delight!
Our server was a tall, blonde guy named Mike. He was very attentive to everything we needed including special instructions for beverages. He even held on to our leftovers for us while we went to the theater just down the street for a play. Now that’s good service!
Excellent service and excellent food!
I came to Morton’s as a regular guest, expecting a high-quality dining experience, but unfortunately, it was very disappointing.
I arrived around 9:25 PM and ordered an espresso martini, which was served. After that, I placed my food order at approximately 9:40PM. However, my food was completely forgotten.
I waited over 50 minutes without receiving my meal. By the time it was close to 11:00 PM, I still had no food, and I had to leave hungry. I only ordered one drink, and I couldn’t even finish it because I was waiting to enjoy it with my meal—which never arrived.
I spoke with a manager about the situation, and the only solution offered was a discount. While I appreciate the gesture, a discount does not make up for waiting almost an hour with no food and leaving the restaurant hungry.
I came to Morton’s for the first time to try it out and see what the experience was like, but this visit did not meet expectations at all. Forgetting a guest’s food and allowing them to wait that long is unacceptable, especially for a restaurant of this level.
Unfortunately, this experience has left me very disappointed.
The garlic-sautéed green beans and creamy mashed potatoes were delicious.
I had hoped for anchovies with my Caesar salad, and this time they arrived—thank you to the excellent server, Justin, for making sure of it!
The famous cheesecake was rich and decadent, served in just the right portion.
Overall, the entire experience was wonderful. Justin made my visit especially pleasant and memorable. Compared to my last visit years ago, Morton’s has truly elevated its service and quality. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming.
Morton’s Steakhouse is more than just a meal—it’s an experience worth savoring. Without hesitation, I give it a shining five stars!
