The Veuve Clicquot was exactly what you expect—clean, crisp, and the perfect “fancy” pairing to wash it all down. I had my burger sauce on the side, my friend ordered giardiniera on the side, and we ended up trading—she used my sauce on her chicken sandwich, and I topped my burger with her pickled onions plus a touch of mustard. That combo alone made the visit worth it. Portions are generous: two larger-than-slider burgers and a good amount of fries, so if you’re not a big eater, this is easy to share or save for later.
We were seated upstairs in the bar area, which was very clean and comfortable. Our server Hannah was friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. I didn’t catch the bartender’s name, but he was working that Saturday afternoon (1/17/26) and shaking cocktails like it mattered, and it showed. I ordered an extra drink, and it was one of the best lemon drops I’ve had: smooth, balanced, not overly sweet, and not too lemony. Great downtown spot to pop in and definitely worth a return visit.
We got there at 4 pm and as we round the corner, I saw people already walking in. So glad we go there when we did be cause it filled up very quickly and I noticed that some spots at the bar and a few tables had reserve signs on them.
Morton’s Bubbles & Bites promotion paired a glass of Veuve Clicquot ‘Yellow Label’ or a Belvedere Martini with smash burger sliders (cheddar cheese, dill pickles, ‘Special Sauce,’ Brioche Bun) and matchstick fries with truffle and parmesan for $29. When you think about what a glass of Veuve cost, this was a steal as far as I was concerned. The burgers were their smash burgers and they were very good. I was happy to see the size of them, as along with the fries, it was easily a light dinner. As we didn’t know at the time what we would be getting in terms of the portion, we also order the short rib tacos (braised short ribs, pickled red onion, sliced avocado, chipotle mayonnaise).
The Happy Meals came out in these very cute Veuve Yellow boxes for the burgers and a fry holder for the fries. Both containers were placed on what looked like a charging plate with a serving of ketchup for the fries (nope nope nope). The burger, fries and tacos were delish and hit the spot for a light dinner. The short rib meat on the tacos was very tender and I loved the slice of fresh avocado. And there is no need to discuss how lovely the Veuve was as that goes without saying.
Despite it being a full house at the bar, Emma (bartender) was totally on point in getting drinks and taking orders. She was not only working the bar, she was working the tables in the bar area as well. As it got closer to 5:30 pm, more help came in, but Emma was werking that area.
Not sure what role Jesse played, but assumed he was a front room person since he and another gentleman were in suits, but helping out. Emma and Jesse (excuse me if that is not how you spell your name) were very responsive in taking care of us. We got to chat with Jesse a little bit about the promotion and I mentioned to him that I saw where Bubbles & Bites was unavailable in Atlanta from January 26-28. He didn’t know why, I was just glad it was going strong in Chicago. Jesse mentioned that Morton’s might be doing other theme related promotions like this centered around holidays, like St Pat’s or Cinco de Mayo. I would definitely check those out.
So glad we came out and had a great time with our Happy Meals. Looking forward to doing this promo next year. “Vive la différence”!
Well, My fries were cold, and under-Truffled. The sliders were unseasoned and slightly over cooked. The waiter, brought me more cheese and ranch for the fries, which was really nice, but the fries were already cold. Sliders were dry and boring. It’s just a plain mini burger with cheese. The food was just off that day. ♀️
The food is AMAZING, so are the drinks from the bar. The wait time and service was disappointing. Our hostesses were awesome despite the long wait for our reservation (there were lots of groups also waiting for a table despite having a reservation).
Our server neglected to observe our request for a birthday acknowledgment of any kind, and was terse when we approached him for any special requests. The moment we stopped ordering more rounds of drinks, he stopped checking on us and his attitude fell off a cliff. We were left wondering if we asked for too much or if he was sulking because we wanted to try the restaurant week menu (which is a lower tab cost than the normal menu and therefore a lower tip/gratuity).
Other local non chains steakhouses will honor special occasion requests with at least a verbal wishing well, dessert, etc. not sure why Morton’s felt they were too good to do anything for a paying customer who chose them to celebrate a special day.
Once seated, we admired the table decorations before being introduced to our server, Melisanda. She was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, taking the time to guide us through the menu and share some helpful recommendations. Our drinks orders were taken and we were given plenty of time to decide on our food choices. Melisanda returned with our drinks, then took our food orders, and not long after we were served some warm, freshly baked bread while we waited for our mains.
When our main courses arrived, we were impressed with the portion sizes. We had been advised that the side dishes were large, but we were still surprised at just how generous they were. The steaks were cooked perfectly and packed with flavour, and the side dishes were delicious, though there was far too much for us to finish.
Despite being full, we couldn’t resist sharing a cheesecake for dessert. It was beautifully presented and came with a little chocolate piece saying “congratulations,” which was another thoughtful detail. As we were about to take a selfie, Melisanda kindly offered to take a picture for us, and later surprised us by returning with a printed photo in a lovely picture holder, a wonderful keepsake from the evening.
Overall, the experience was fantastic from start to finish. The entire team went above and beyond to make our night special, and Melisanda in particular really stood out for her exceptional service. If you are looking for a memorable dinner with thoughtful touches in Chicago, I would definitely recommend Morton’s Steakhouse.
