We happened across this cute little ice cream shop today and I’m so glad we did. The space is adorable and there were lots of super interesting ice cream flavors to choose from. They very kindly offered samples, which I usually don’t take them up on, but I couldn’t say no this time! Everything tasted great. It’s also very close to Lake Morton for an alternative spot to eat your ice cream. We will definitely be back!
(Pictured two scoops in a cone. Chocolate and mocha chip. Rich and delicious.)
Cute space, delightful staff, and yummy ice cream with a good assortment of flavors.
It’s small but had several tables inside and two outside. It was a lovely evening, so sitting outdoors would’ve been nice.
We loved the aroma of freshly made waffle cones as we entered the shop.
Two seasonal flavors were offered – pumpkin (swirl, I think?) and sweet corn blueberry.
The servings were refreshingly generous, and the waffle cones were crisp and not overly sweet, nicely complimenting the ice cream.
We had heard that the ice cream was kinda soft when it first opened, but that is definitely not the case now. Great texture, creamy, firm, and cold.
10 out 10 would recommend. I look forward to continuing to support this locally owned ice cream shop.
Additionally, you’re able to try samples from classic vanilla, gator trail, to seasonal mango. Imagine a warm ice cream hug – that’s what a croque glacé is: 2 pieces of soft brioche bread and any type of ice cream + syrup flavor! *chefs kiss* We had one with vanilla ice cream and blackberry syrup. We also tried the strawberry waffle cone and pistachio affogato. 11/10 for all!
The staff and owners are so approachable and welcoming, you just know so much love and passion has gone into this ice cream shop. From small details like sprinkles on the walls to their neon signs and unique local art. Mootown Scoops made us so happy and is absolutely our new favorite ice cream spot!
Mootown Scoops is in a fantastic location right off of Lake Morton along East Palmetto Street. It’s across the street from the public library, Lake Morton Black & Brew, and the AGB (aka Polk) Museum of Art.
It’s in close quarters to Misterfish and the Peach House, so there’s activities, food & drink within super close walking distance to then top your time off with some delicious ice cream.
The shop is pretty small, and it got fairly busy when we went so I’m curious to see how the line holds up. The register is closer to the door but you order on the far opposite end, but it’s very narrow so I can see it getting extremely crowded even with a dozen or so people in line.
But now, the ice cream, it was great! I was impressed that they have 3-4 non-dairy options which is more than the average ice cream shop. You can also choose from a homemade waffle cone, affogato, or croque glacé (ice cream sandwich of sorts). The croque glacé is a fun and unique option.
I tried the espresso chip which will satisfy any coffee lover. However, the gator trail is a really popular one with chocolate fudge and peanut butter cups in vanilla ice cream. Oh, and you can also get a milkshake too.
There’s minimal outdoor seating but not much room to add more. You can park on either side of the building or across the street in the library parking lot.
