I’ve been coming here since it was called Hippo Bakery years ago. They changed their name to Moose Bakery a few years back, but it’s still the same delicious bakery I’ve always loved.
I used to drive almost an hour just to get their bread whenever I craved authentic Japanese bakery items. But now that I’ve moved closer, I can visit more often — and I’m so glad I can! Sometimes I even stop by the nearby Japanese market afterward; it’s become a little routine of mine.
The texture of their bread is delicate and refined, very different from typical American bread, and that’s what makes it special. Their donuts are so good that I usually end up eating one right in the car. The rest taste amazing after a quick 15 seconds in the microwave.
I especially recommend the breads filled with red bean or the sandwiches with tonkatsu or potato croquette — it might sound unusual to have those in bread, but they pair perfectly and taste incredible.
They also sell small $6 bags of leftover bread from the previous day, but even those sell out quickly in the morning. Everything here is always fresh and made with care. A must-visit bakery if you love soft, flavorful Japanese-style bread!
Guests can settle into a chair with a warm pastry and a cup of tea or boba, but the real charm lies in the classic self‑serve setup. Using tongs, you select individually wrapped pastries from the display—each one neatly packaged and inviting.
On my visit, I picked up curry rolls, tuna rolls, and a yakisoba‑filled bun. The tuna rolls were destined for my wife, and judging by her reaction, they were a complete triumph. The bakery also offers online ordering; my late‑evening order was scheduled for pickup two days later, though placing an order earlier in the day may yield next‑day availability.
The experience brought back memories of BreadTalk, a beloved bakery chain across Asia, with its similar blend of efficiency, comfort, and reliably delicious offerings.
Will I return. Absolutely.
It’s authentic, and hands down just the best, the cream cheese anything is my favorite. But all amazing, and always a hit when I bring them for events.
I also love the green tea with fruit in it, very refreshing and so yummy!
They do not disappoint!
