Currently writing this from 30,000 feet on a Delta flight from NYC to Pensacola, and I just spotted Moore’s County Store in Lynchburg, VA. Wow. From up here, it looks like a culinary lighthouse beaming hotdogs and chili goodness across the valley.
I haven’t landed yet, but I can already tell the hotdogs are heroic and the chili is likely a life-altering experience. The roofline screams “family-run excellence,” and the parking lot has the sort of organized chaos that only comes from generations of snack-serving wisdom.
If the food tastes even half as good as it looks from 30,000 feet, I’m already planning a pilgrimage. Five stars for the aerial view alone, but I suspect the chili earns six.

Portion size was good. Cheeseburger was cooked all the way through. Great atmosphere. Lots of locals that talk together and make you feel at home.

It’s more convenience store than a hot dog joint, but I came for the hotdog. Great hotdogs. Their chili has a kick to it, and I think that made the dog better. Quick service and helpful store front.
It’s hard to rate an atmosphere of a convenience store. The store conveniently has places to sit, so it’s a plus for sure.

Family owned “country store” that has a long local history. The HOT dogs are some of the best around if you want them spicy hot and like the “carolina packer/jesse james” style hotdogs. Those are the heavily red dyed hotdogs.
The beef chili is very good if you don’t want the spicy regular. The toppings are generous and the flavors are good. The burger is fine and what is normal for a country store.
Prices are good but service is always excellent, friendly, and fast.

Moores will be 100 year old in 2026. This place is like stepping back in time. I love stopping in to get the amazing hot dogs with hot chili. Must stop place for lunch!

I have been going Moore’s Country store sense the 60’s.Thank goodness it has remained the same wonderful landmark with all that is changing around us that’s not always a good change.The double cheese burger was absolutely the best I ever had.( A realfresh beef burger).Of course the famous red hot fogs

I really wanted to like this place, especially after seeing the reviews and learning about its history. But, idk what the hype is about.
The hot dogs were pretty rough. Probably sitting on a shelf soaking in some Red 40 liquid somewhere questionable. Not good quality. Went back for a burger a couple weeks ago and that was just as bad. If I wanted heated up frozen food, I would do it myself in the convenience of my home.
Really wish the owners would do something to elevate the food experience. It would make this place a gem.
However, the tree was admittedly pretty cool. It was worth the stop just to see that. But despite the cool factor, I will not be coming back to this store. I’ll head up the road for a cleaner and more properly stocked convenience store.
