We stopped into Moondog Cafe in Key West just for pastries — and it was absolutely worth it.
The selection was impressive, with a wide variety of beautiful, fresh options. The blueberry bread pudding was stellar. We also tried the pistachio croissant, a crème brûlée croissant, and their rum cakes — every single thing was top shelf.
As someone who’s been to some of the best bakeries in the states, I can confidently say this place holds its own. If you’re in Key West and even remotely considering a pastry stop, go.

Found this Key West gem and it’s an amazing place. Staff is friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Had shrimp tacos, lobster bisque and Cobb salad on the first night- everything was perfectly seasoned without being overbearing. But can we talk about the pastry puhleeeese!!! I don’t know who the creative genius is behind them but oh Lordy. The Key Lime pie is insane, best I’ve ever had. The rest of her creations are equally amazing.

Absolutely delicious. We went back for baked goods almost everyday of the trip. We went before opening to get a table for breakfast one day and it didn’t disappoint. Their chai latte and watermelon lime drink were just okay but all food was phenomenal. We had berry danish, strawberry creme danish, fun cake, key lime raspberry turnover, almond croissant, chocolate croissant, cinnamon roll and blueberry cheesecake banana pudding. For breakfast we had veggie & breakfast skillet. All delicious.

Don’t walk, RUN TO MOONDOG!! This place has a great atmosphere, TOP KNOTCH food and drinks, wonderful staff. I have celiac’s and I could’ve eaten here every day. Delicious key lime pie (mini tart), specialty coffee, breakfast tacos with shrimp, mahi wrap. My husband also loved it, he had the blueberry pancakes which weren’t his favorite, but then he got the Elvis French toast and he was in heaven. I also had the blood orange sangria (the best sangria I’ve ever had). Seriously, you can’t skip this spot.

This place took me by surprise. In a tourist town fun looking restaurants don’t have to have good food to survive. By contrast, Moondog is convenient, festive, friendly, and has food that stunned me with it’s freshness and quality. For instance, the fish tacos were served moist and hot, flavorful and plentiful. The salad we had was a full bowl of flavor for our vegetarian diner, and the ham and cheese croissant did not skimp on the filling! Their traditional margarita was the best my wife and I have had, actually, with a great, well-balanced flavor, supported by a base of fresh-squeezed lime juice. A watermelon non-alcoholic drink was fresh and light. The Key Lime pie was amazing, the special bread cheesecake was really solid (both homemade), and the espresso was unexpectedly bold, smooth, and super sippable, the kind you’d expect in Europe. The servers were friendly and kind, with fast service, almost zero wait for food to come out. We dined on the deck, with a fun view for people-watching and a pleasant breeze. I would definitely come back and keep trying each menu item!

The Moondog Cafe is a must! Definitely a new spot I will be stopping at during every visit!
The key lime pie was divine and so fun and the food was amazing! I can’t remember the name of the salad but it was like a southwest chicken salad and was to die for! And we did a veggie Benedict that was delicious. 12/10 recommend. The roosters walking around too made the whole atmosphere that much better!

We wanted to check out this restaurant mainly to try the famous key lime pie. What we found is not only did the pie live up to its reputation, but the breakfast food that we ordered was also fantastic. We had egg benadict, mahi tacos, shrimp pizza and seafood omelette. The dishes were fresh and very tasty. The service was excellent, and the outside area where we were seated was really pleasant and relaxing. Highly recommended.

Every trip to Key West, we make a stop at Moondog Cafe, and it never disappoints. We always enjoy a delicious lunch, and their key lime pie is hands down one of the best in town. The pastries are amazing, the bakery selection is top notch, and the coffee is really good too. A must visit spot every time we’re in Key West. Also the fact that they have vegan key lime pie is amazing!!

Moondog Cafe is an absolute gem! The huevos rancheros were tasty, and they offer so many delicious dessert choices, and I was especially happy to see that they have many gluten-free options as well. We settled for the key lime pie which was hands down the best I’ve ever had — perfectly tart, creamy, and unforgettable. And a Gluten Free guava eclair which was beyond delicious.
There was a bit of a wait for a table, but it was completely worth it. The service was warm and friendly, and the atmosphere is exceptionally cozy and charming. It’s the kind of place you instantly fall in love with. I highly recommend stopping in if you’re in the area — I’ll definitely be back!

Moondog Cafe in Key West was the highlight of our trip. It’s located right next to the Hemingway Home and Museum, so its location is quite conspicuous.
Our server was quite jovial and polite, and assisted with all our requests. We arrived during the happy hour(4:30pm-6:30pm), so we were able to snag a few cool deals on drinks.
For food, we got:
Truffle Fries: Fresh fries with fresh herbs and Parmesan—this was an excellent start to the meal
Blackened Mahi Mahi: It was mind blowing. The pineapple salsa and black beans along with the fish were quite flavorful and an excellent combination. The street corn rubbed with cheese was great too!
Moon Burger(The Moondog): Again an excellent tasting burger which was quite filling, it comes with salad or fries
Their appetizers, mains, salads, burgers and pizzas seemed quite popular.
Their drinks menu is quite extensive as well, with a range of mocktails and cocktails, and beers and wines.
We concluded our meal with the key lime pie, which was quite scrumptious!
Street parking is available outside. In case you’re staying in Key West, I recommend walking here if you can to save yourself from parking hassles.
Oh, and they’ve baked goods too! Seating is available both inside and outside.
Overall, Moondog was a 10/10 experience for us, and I highly recommend visiting here.
