I contracted with Deja for a last minute catering order for one of my accounts that requested a Soul Food Lunch. Deja made special accommodations for my early meeting and when the lunch was served everyone gasped in excitement! The aroma of the Soul Standards was bringing people into the conference room that weren’t in the meeting. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food and I was grateful that Deja too the time and special effort to make sure it was all Hot and Fresh! Thank you Mikita and Deja for your warm smile and beautiful customer service. Last thing, I know running a business costs and resources can be limited but unfortunately your Lobby area does not reflect the care and quality of your food. Maybe one of your customers is a carpenter or handyman and could give you guys a deal on a new lobby floor and paint. Possibly partner with with some local artists and display some nice artwork in the lobby as well. First impressions are lasting. But, great job with my catering order and I will be ordering catering again soon.
Warmest,
Maurissa,

Sorry to say that this but I feel robbed. I used to get chitlins here for a reasonable price; it was worth not dealing with the hassle of cleaning at home and even though the prices gone up they were good + cleaned well. They used to have them right on the food line so you could see. But today what I ordered was absolute trash for $50. They have no size posted on the board so I asked and was shocked it for a 12oz cup! I said ok since I had a craving and they make you pay before getting the meal from the back…
I’m a fool for paying but they should be ashamed to serve this mess. This is pic of the chitlins in the bag and then close up at home after I drained some grease out. I gave benefit of doubt thinking maybe what they cook in has reddish tint but honesty they are Dark, stringy textured and burnt parts. Of course there are no cash refunds and that’s why you PAY FIRST.
Overall, the food quality there has gone down noticeably; I used to frequent there for their desserts, chitlins and dressing when I had a taste for it. I won’t ever consider returning.

It was short ribs pulled off the bone. ♀️ This gotta be the second time I bought a meal from the same restaurant and it was not what it trick meal as well The last meal I got was barbecue chicken turns out it was baked chicken with barbecue sauce. ♀️Y’all need to do better we want better food.

Excellent soul food! Take away only. Got delicious ox tail stew, rib tails and bbq chicken with green beans, collard greens, sweet yams and coleslaw with corn bread and gravy. Very tasty food and kind service. Would definitely recommend.

The food was AMAZING and the service was too. My wife wanted rib tips, they ran out but didn’t disappoint her with the BBQ chicken. I got the smothered pork chop and the gravy was good. The sides were good as well we sampled a few of them, the yams, greens, potato salad, great northern beans and Mac n cheese.(My wife got a sweet potato pie as well but we saved it and we haven’t tried it yet. I will update my review when we do). Everything was good and I recommend trying everything for yourself.

Review for Mookie’s Soul Food Restaurant
I’ve been a loyal customer of Mookie’s for many years, and my family and I have always enjoyed the food. We even drive about 45 minutes just to get a taste of that good old fashioned soul food that’s hard to find where we live.
However, I have to say that over time, I’ve noticed a real decline in the quality and flavor of the food and today’s visit was especially disappointing. We ordered a variety of dishes including macaroni and cheese, green beans, dressing, baked beans, pig feet, and cabbage. Unfortunately, everything just seemed off. The macaroni tasted like boxed macaroni, not the baked version we’ve always loved. The dressing had no flavor and tasted more like plain cornbread. The green beans were mushy, almost like they had been reheated multiple times, and the cabbage was bland with no seasoning.
I’m not sure if there’s a new cook, but if so, soul food may not be their calling. Mookie’s has always been about flavor, comfort, and consistency and that’s what keeps loyal customers coming back. I say this with respect and love for a restaurant that has been part of my family’s dining tradition for years: please bring back the quality and taste that made Mookie’s special. Otherwise, you may lose a lot of your faithful customers—myself included.
A long-time loyal (and disappointed) customer

Food was unfortunately not good, seems that food was old and should not have been served. Potato salad, potato’s were hard, also in neck bones, potatoes were old. The cake was absolutely delicious and fortunately the beans, macaroni and cheese and rice were good but was not of the quality expected for the price that was paid and the turkey legs were also ok but not delicious. I hate this considering that is a black business and we want to go hard for our black business but I was not impressed by far. Staff was very nice and I even tipped but if I would have know better, I would not have came. Most of the food is still in the refrigerator and needs to be taken out and thrown away.

Rib tip dinner: Originally I had 6 pieces of meat in the meal but I thankfully checked my bag as directed to on the signs. I inquired and the container was filled with what I should have gotten as a dinner.
Rib tips: more than 1/2 was tough, some even so much not edible. Disappointing. The cornbread was dry, crumbly and seems like it was old. Old like days old. Cornbread is not difficult or something that would take long to cook so I’m not sure why I’d get old cornbread midday on a Saturday. If that’s not old then the cook needs to be retrained respectfully. It ended up in the trash.
Sides: dressing was good and not overly salty. Yams had too much sugar for me. The staff continuously checked and refilled the sides which was good to see.
I bought another meal for someone to eat and I hope it was better. Overall, not worth the $25+ tax I paid today. The staff was pleasant. The area was kept clean. However, the meat was a failure. I would be fine paying $25 if the meat was edible. I would not recommend going here for bbq as they have a not cash return policy. It is store credit or a gift card even if the food is poorly made. Likely need to go to a bbq specific restaurant next time. Someone else brought a meal back while I was there because the meat was tough. Not the same meat I was eating, but I should have took that as a sign to skip what I ordered.
I have no plans on driving way back to the restaurant and just count it as a loss.

I would like to say for my first time ordering food was bland and had no soul flavor. But it was good and fair portions even when the price is expensive. Will i try again No because food should have a distinguish flavor from other soul food restaurants . I thank you for trying. ❤️

I said I wouldn’t go back since it had fallen off so hard, but we had out of town guest who couldnt believe it was as bad as I said from the last time they visited. They unfortunately had to agree. we ordered from here. Everything was terrible. Rib tips were overcooked, almost inedible , dry and burnt. Fried chicken also overcooked dry. Same with Mac n Cheese. Definitely last visit. Too bad, I hate not being able to support black businesses especially in this area. Really disappointing.
