Always a great diner. Especially for their baked goods!
The service was so friendly and attentive. The lady even cut us slices from a fresh pie because the one that was there wasn’t up to her standards.

I ordered the Appetizer Platter with Fried Pickles, Chicken Wings, and Fried Mac & Cheese, the “By Thunder” Burger with French Fries and Coleslaw, Hot Turkey Sandwich, and finished off with a Peanut Butter Fudge Pie and Chocolate Whoopie Pie. For the appetizer platter, the chicken wings were incredible! They have a great crisp and are full of meat. The fried pickles weren’t my favorite as I’m not a fan of the breading style (spongy over crispy). I don’t typically love Mac & Cheese, but the the bites were unique and taste great. The burger is hefty, but well cooked and the bun is what makes it. If you love a good burger, this will hit the spot. The fries and coleslaw are both good, especially the coleslaw. The Hot Turkey Sandwich is really good, with the caveat being you’ve got to like real turkey. This isn’t the overly processed turkey from other restaurants. The peanut butter fudge pie is delicious, but rich. The chocolate fudge was my favorite part. I’d probably order a different pie next time.

The story and atmosphere of Moody’s is the foundation of why this place is great. It’s the quintessential small town diner, with its history seeped in every brick and picture covering the walls. It’s easy to fall in love with this place, and I’ll absolutely be back in the future.

We visited Moody’s Diner on a Saturday in late August around 11:45 a.m. Parking was easy, and the wait for a table was about 20 minutes, which seemed reasonable for a busy weekend. Once seated, it took another 10 minutes before our server introduced herself. The service was polite but a bit slow, and unfortunately, the food and what followed were much worse.
I ordered a simple breakfast: two slices of French toast, two eggs cooked over hard, two sausage links, and coffee. The French toast was dry and thin, not the thick, custardy style you’d expect from a diner with decades of tradition. The eggs were greasy and undercooked, far from “over hard.” The sausage links were small and forgettable. My companion had a similar meal. This was our only meal of the day, as we had a full schedule planned on the water.
About an hour after eating, we both became ill. I had severe stomach pain that lasted into the next day, and neither of us could eat again. Our afternoon and evening plans, which had been booked weeks in advance, had to be canceled. Whether it was from undercooked eggs or poor food handling, the experience was disappointing and disruptive. The bill came to $28.03 for two breakfasts and coffee, which felt high for the quality we received.
At the entrance, Moody’s displays a framed certificate from the Waldoboro American Legion and a poster from the Mid-Coast Veterans Council calling the diner “Veteran Friendly.” As a veteran myself, I noticed this right away. The certificate, dated February 2021, thanks Moody’s for “service and support to veterans,” and the poster features patriotic imagery and a general endorsement.
However, there was no indication of any actual veteran discount on food or merchandise. I inquired about a veteran discount, both for food and merchandise, but none was offered. While symbolic recognition is appreciated, being “Veteran Friendly” should mean more than hanging a certificate on the wall. It should include tangible support, especially from a long-standing community business that proudly displays that title.
Moody’s Diner has history and name recognition, but this visit fell short on food quality, safety, and authentic community support. The service was fine, but the meal made us sick, and the value just wasn’t there. For travelers and fellow veterans, I’d suggest trying another spot.

The coffee was very good. We had The Noah breakfast, did not disappoint. And, of course, the pie. Blueberry pie, heated, with vanilla ice cream. It is the best as claimed. Pleasant service as well.

Moody’s Diner is the quintessential essence of 20th century diners. I could never say enough of how poignantly perfect Moody’s represent as a historically concise example of the American diner experience.
Truly a “not to be missed ” highlight on any journey within an hour of this Maine icon.
And if you’re from away, on a visit to Maine… make it a stop on your trip, otherwise you’ve wasted an opportunity of a life time.

This is hard because we went here after hearing all the hype and left a little disappointed. Waited about 30 min for a table which probably added to the expectation.
Food was okay. It was a little pricey for what they had to offer. Everything was alacarte.
Service definitely gave off the “you’re not from around here” vibe and yet they seemed to advertise for tourists.
They also have a plaque about supporting veterans and yet don’t provide a veteran’s discount. That’s fine, that’s their choice, but other places in the area don’t need a plaque

Friendly, local-ish atmosphere. Crowded, but we opted for counter dining without the wait. Food was very good. I had the grilled haddock, which was tender, moist and wonderful. My husband’s onion rings wrre like we remember from “back in the day.” My corn and bacon chowder was a bit of a let down – more watery than creamy – and the vegetables seemed canned. But, hey, nithing says diner more than veggies from a can, lol. We took 2 pieces of pie to go, which lived up to the hype. It was an expensive “diner” experience, but we did get appetizers and pie, so…
