In 2017, I made my way to the Bay Area after years of apprenticeship at South Korea’s renowned traditional restaurant, Moo Bong Ri, known for its exceptional culinary expertise. Together with my dedicated team, our mission is to passionately share the richness of authentic Korean cuisine with the vibrant communities of Oakland and the broader Bay Area. Our aspiration goes beyond the flavors of Seoul; it’s about infusing Oakland with the true essence of Korean culture and presence. Moo Bong Ri Oakland, under the guidance of Owner and Chef, Hoon Han, is a manifestation of this commitment. I ordered the Spicy Blood Sausage Soup, which came with blood susage, broth, offal and meats. I would say the blood sausage had a really interesting texture, chewy but soft at the same time. I don’t fully get the hype around it, but the flavor was really good!
We also tried the Spicy Stir-fried Octopus & Noodle, which tasted really delicious. it came with lots of small octopus and shrimps, and the flaor was enhanced by Bonito flakes and sesame oil, giving it a really unique taste. I would highly recommend this dish!
The food portions were larger than expected.
The prices were reasonable.
Wide variety of dishes in their menu that are harder to find at other Korean restaurants.
Service was exceptional given it was a full house.
They also seals the to g o containers so no leak. I thought that is very thoughtful touch.
Small parking g lot, but lots of street parking.
We ordered the beef short rib soup and the sausage soup, both are delicious and portions are big! Will definitely come again
I ordered the Spicy Beef Short Rib Soup, perfect for a cold day. It arrived in a large metal bowl, and the soup is beautiful with its vibrant red color. I’m no expert in Korean food, but whether you call it Korean or simply good food, it’s excellent from the colors to the taste in your mouth. It’s just perfect. Well worth the $25 lunch with two large ribs floating in the soup. Surely a must-try place!
The staff is very attentive. Sometimes the wait can be long on a weekend or with a bigger party. The literal only downside to this establishment is the parking lot gets full and has an awkward exit/entrance.
Highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic, consistently great Korean food in Oakland!
