MONUMENT INN FUN FACTS Bob and Ann Laws purchased the Monument Inn in June of 1990 and the restaurant has been in business since 1974. Prior to owning the Monument Inn, Bob Laws owned a catering company in the motion picture industry. He has worked with many movie stars including Tom Cruise, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford and more. Ann Laws was director of operations for a chain of 5 restaurants in Texas. Six months after they acquired the restaurant, it burned to the ground. They re-opened at this current location 10 weeks later. Both hurricanes Ike and Harvey flooded our downstairs private rooms. In both instances, we completely remodeled in a little over a month. Now their changing their business to keep us safe from the corona virus

THE VIEW is beautiful, over looking the water, and you can watch big ships passing by.

Went for Mother’s Day & was my 1st time. It was a pretty long wait, but it IS their busiest weekend of the year. Food did NOT disappoint! Calamari & fried green tomatoes were excellent. Crawfish bisque was probably the best I’ve had. Seafood pasta was all you’d hope for & more. Bread was fresh & service was SUPER friendly. (Thought about photos after I’d already started so full presentation is a little lost, but you can get an idea) Would love to try again next time I’m in the area!

First time here, enjoyed the food and service. Some stuff was a bit salty but overall great. Had the broiled crabcakes, grilled shrimp, and shrimp and mushroom pasta. Their crab stuffed jalapeños is a must try. Don’t have the coffee.

Food was fresh and tasted very good. The portions were a good size. I ordered the all you can eat deal and it was just too much. I would not hesitate to come here again. We were lucky enough to get a seat by the window allowing us to watch the ships and barges up close. The staff were excellent. In a world where it is becoming harder and harder to find good wait staff, ours were as good as any 5 star gourmet restaurant I have ever been to. Couple that with fresh and excellent seafood and you have a truly awesome experience.

Chicken fried steak with yellow gravy. Hmmm. Wasn’t the greatest . The seafood platter was good. View was nice. Think we came during shift change. Service was slow.

One of our go to spots for seafood and a view! I love their rolls and cinnamon rolls. I tired their famous pan fried shrimp but may go back to the fried shrimp instead.

You can have a treat by going to this restaurant. My salad today was a bit sad. We order a fish sandwich and a fish platter. We were not very hungry and both plates were plenty of food. For some reason the fish was a little dry and had fishy taste. Overall experience was good. Server was very busy but managed to take care of us. We just enjoyed the view and helped us remember when we used to go there for a romantic lunch . Please, please, please leave room for the delicious cinnamon and dinner rolls made in house. They are superb. I believe they are part of the platters so check before you select your entrée.

The wait was easily an hour to be seated. You can wait upstairs if there is room, or downstairs where there’s lots of room. If it’s crowded, it gets a little bit stuffy. Once seated, you get to look out the large windows at the Houston ship channel and watch large ships going in and out. Some of those boats are HUGE! They start you off with free rolls and cinnamon rolls. I ate two of the cinnamon rolls and had to refrain from a third, so yum. We ordered fried catfish and fried shrimp. The shrimp was really good, but the fried catfish just didn’t hit the spot. The texture and flavor were just a little bit off. The amazing wife ordered a stuffed crab and thoroughly enjoyed it. The server was really good and very attentive. Considering we had a table for 28, I can’t imagine how she was so efficient, but she was on top of it.

An interesting location with a perfect view of the ship channel! Definitely worth waiting to sit by the windows. Space was very clean. The restaurant is upstairs but they do have an electric stair lift to get people upstairs. And lastly service was very good and attentive.

The food is amazing and fresh. I had the blackened salmon, and it was perfect. And the complimentary cinnamon rolls are so good. I will definitely come back
