Just wow! Had a really good experience here. Food was great with large portions. Generous with chips and salsa. And with such hospitable services.

Recommended. Had a really good experience here. Had Josh as a waiter – really excellent. All came in contact with were nice. Food good with large portions. Generous with chips and salsa. Did not nickel and dime for things, and no charge for using a credit card – makes me want to come back already. California burrito and chicken soup especially good.

My family had ordered takeout from Monterrey of Newnan in the Arbor Springs Publix shopping center a handful of times and had been pleased, but I chose to wait for the full dine-in experience to write a review. Happy to report I was not disappointed!
Obligatory Area Mexican Review Trigger Warning:
I’m just a basic white girl. I have no idea what constitutes “authentic” Mexican cuisine in the rural south, nor am I particularly concerned with legitimizing my review by selecting dishes more exciting than a basic lunch special. Please adjust expectations accordingly.
I went with my charming and witty mother during peak lunch (12:00 pm) on a Tuesday afternoon. Our server—and, as I was to learn, our surprisingly capable bartender—was Ulysses. He was attentive but not overly so, and gave my mother and I ample time to visit and enjoy our cocktails without rushing us.
The restaurant is tastefully decorated in modern fashion with a statement wall full of the most beautiful black and white portraits of (what I assume to be; pls don’t cancel me) Mexican citizens. Everything is higher end: furniture is quality, comfortable and substantial. A rare air of restraint can be found in all decor selections. It is a very pleasant atmosphere. Busy enough as to not arouse concern for the business’s future, but quiet enough to not want to tell too many people about your new favorite place. But here I am, revealing all to you. You’re welcome.
I got the “Top Shelf Margarita” made with Silver Herradura, triple sec, I think also maybe Cointreau?, agave and lime juice. And PTL it actually IS lime juice. Not that foul fluid-of-the-devil sour mix but actual lime juice. It was very well-balanced: boozy, sweet, and tart in blissful proportions. My mom had the “Sangrita”, which she chose to have frozen: a mix of margarita and sangria that I fully expected to turn my stomach in the most horrifically budget Mexican way, but was actually shockingly subtle and tasted mostly like a more complex pomegranate juice. Hats off to Ulysses for expert execution of both of these delicious cocktails.
The chips and salsa were inoffensive. Chips were fresh but perhaps slightly thicker than I prefer—not a swipe left offense by any means—and the salsa was very tomato forward and fresh tasting. Not particularly complex or spicy or interesting, but good.
Queue the eyerolls and immediate dismissal of our entire persons, but both of us got the “1 Item” Lunch Special, which includes beans and rice for $10.99: I had cheese enchilada, and my mom had chile relleno. Both were very tasty. Again, no reinventing the wheel here or anything, but everything was a good texture and had solid flavor/was amply seasoned. For example, the refried beans weren’t pureed all to he!!, and smacked deliciously of larded umami™️.
I’m a fan. And if you’re not yet so jaded that you can admit sometimes a cheesy-beany-ricey stew is just what you want to slide some sturdy, serviceable tortilla chips into after polishing off a plain ol’ burrito, you might like this place, too. If not, sit at the bar and ask Ulysses to mix you up something delicious. Either way, let’s agree to just keep this quietly dependable gem between us, ok?

Great new, authentic Mexican restaurant in the area. Service is fast, friendly, and polite. The spices are a flavorful, amazing, and refreshingly different taste than you normally find around the area. If you are looking for some REALLY great Fajitas definitely check this place out. Happy eating.

You never know what to expect from a new restaurant but Monterrey killed it. We went for lunch on a Saturday and the food was spot on. Steak, shrimp, and chicken were all great and our glasses were never empty. I truly hope it stays this way because I will definitely be back

Service was good. The taco salad was lacking meat and flavor. It was mostly lettuce and sour cream. The margarita was alright but not the best I’ve ever had. Salsa was OK but not flavorful. Was hoping to love this new place, but I don’t. The food needs more of a Mexican taste it was bland.
The restroom was very clean but had no paper products.

Hey everyone, Just wanted to give you my honest review after trying this place tonight October 18, 2025. My husband and I saw this place after stopping by the Publix and thought we should try it out had decent reviews and 4.5 stars. Let’s start with the fact that the restaurant has a health score of 82 tried to look past this and just continue on with our dinner choice. We were seated by a kind host and then our interesting experience started. First it took us about 6 minutes to even be acknowledged by a server. The time was around 4:30pm and there was literally only 1 other family of 4 eating inside. After we finally got a drink order I started to just enjoy the meal. I couldn’t help but notice the bartender sitting in the booth right to bar casually vaping and playing on his phone while his coworker slept with his head down on the dining table. Health score was really showing it’s true colors at this point. I continued on with dinner ordering the chunky guacamole as an appetizer. This immediately came to the table in less than two minutes. That’s great service time but unfortunately the guac literally had dark brown hues in it which really threw me off at this point. It was not fresh at all and just tasted like plain avocado, and tomato. This was also $11.75 might I add for some old tasteless “chunky guac”. I will say the steak burrito and the California burrito were good the rice had no flavor and neither did the beans. Back to the employees of this 1 star establishment, the bartender continued to handle clean glassware behind the counter after vaping and playing on his phone for at least 15 minutes. Sleepy head in the back corner just couldn’t do anything productive. I’m sure the 3 dirty tables that had food and drinks sitting on them were too much to handle. I honestly felt sorry for my server because he was the only one cleaning the tables and sweeping the restaurant but then to be handling food right after doing so and his co-workers sleeping and taking a smoke break inside? I guess I should also bring up the young man who walked in sat down at the bar and didn’t even get serviced for at least 5-8 minutes until my server had to tell sleepy head and vape boy that a customer was sitting at the bar (10 feet away). Needless to say if you read this review I highly suggest going anywhere else in the Newnan area for better authentic Mexican food. Worst guac I’ve had in at least 2 years. The 82 health score is spot on and I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets even worse! Thanks for the Burrito that was decent but we will not be back and I suggest everyone take there money somewhere else!!!!
Thank you- ZM
