I’m 0/2 eating out this week! Monterrey Cafe turned into my 2nd disappointment of the week. After a movie in Weslaco, my sister wanted to eat local, so we opted for MC. I had seen videos and pics of their food online and it looked good. We arrived on Sunday at 2:15pm. I ordered the fried chicken plate and asked the waitress which side she’d recommend. She stated the fries were good and crispy so we went with that. My sister order the chicken and beef sincronizadas(?). Our food was lackluster and left plenty to be desired. I could not eat the fries because they were so limp and greasy. The chicken had burnt bits-but I happen to like that . My sister stated her dish was allcheese, no meat. $2.99 for fountain drinks, our total for 2 entrees was $32. And that’s because they didn’t bring the roll with butter my sis ordered so that came off the tab. All the years living in the Valley, I had heard good things about MC, but here are way too many other restaurants serving much better food to ever return.

I feel soooo blessed to have found this pretty little place I LOVEEEE the food, GREAT TASTY FOOD, the ambiance, the people, the servers they truly do make you feel welcome ❤️ I will definitely keep coming back, even if I have to drive 30mins+ DEFINITELY WORTH THE DRIVE! Today was our first time here. My husband and I are in search of the best menudo in Weslaco. This was better than some I’ve tried, but it still lacked some flavor. Albeit, when I added extra salt, lime, and cilantro, it was delightful!
I must say that the service here is excellent! Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. The tables are kept clean, and someone is always checking up on you.
I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of the menu, but everything looks delicious, and the prices aren’t bad. They offer three bowl sizes for menudo starting at $8.99 for the small one and up to $12.99 for the large. I’m sure we’ll be back to try other dishes.
One thing that I noticed is that they offer a mini botana that serves one person. I’ve never seen that; usually, botanas are to share. That’s neat. The corn tortillas are pretty big.
