If you’re looking for authentic Italian food, especially Sicilian, this is the place to go in Lynchburg. It’s nothing like chain Italian places.

Old world Italian atmosphere – fast, friendly service, and authentic Italian food! I was in Lynchburg for the day. I googled Italian restaurants and this one came up third -but something told me to go and check it out. I’m so glad I did! I will be looking for excuses to come back to Lynchburg so I can eat at Monte Carlo’s.

Fresh and crunchy lettuce in the Caesar salad. Garlic knots that will leave you asking for more. I had the cheese ravioli in tomato sauce and I promise you I could taste the Italian grandmother’s love in this sauce!

Go eat!

We found this place on a Google search and came for the pizza and garlic knots. We were not disappointed. The dough for both is almost a sourdough and delicious! I brought almost an entire pizza home and heated it up the next day and it was still perfect.
This place is “old world.” You’re going to stay a while and enjoy the murals, or the kitchy decor and wait a minute or two for the staff to come back. This is NOT fast food, this is good food done really well.
We loved our server, an older gentlewoman who was pure delight.

PS – Eat the cannoli at the restaurant. They do not travel well, and got soggy, although the filling was still delish!

I went for a takeout pizza, the first time I ordered one, and I ordered a medium, meat lovers and it was good. Good flavor and quantity of ingredients. The crust was crispy not burn, it made it home nice and crispy a not soggy like other takeout and there was no grease at all. It was a little expensive but at least everything else was a plus.

I have been to this restaurant twice, and I had good experiences with both, but I believe that my first pasta was not as good as the second time I went. All to say, I would come here again only for the tomato based seafood pastas and their salad.

The first time I went, I was with a big group and we all had our own dishes picked out. I went for the fat boy dish because it seemed that many of their ingredients went into this dish and I could enjoy the different meats and vegetables. The dish was okay but it did not suit my palette.

Second time I came however, I had their penne pescatore with linguini (since I am a big linguini fan, albeit it can get more messy than penne) It was one of the better pastas I have had in many years. I believe the tomato sauce’s acidity and sweetness did well balancing the taste of seafood. I also had the Caesar salad and I believe the dressing was also one of the better dressings I have had.

Service and atmosphere-wise, I thought they are top-notch, and I also really enjoyed how classy the interior is. A setup seems like one of those banquet or reception hall seating so that many people could be accommodated.

What a hidden gem! The waitstaff was wonderful and the food was amazing. I wish I took a picture of the pile of garlic knots that we had before the meal… Baked to perfection! We had a party of nine and nobody had a bad meal. The gnocchi and tortellini were delicious in a nice bolognais sauce. The pizza was delicious and the lasagna was great. I’ve not had such tender meatballs since the ones my Italian grandmother used to make for me. I would recommend this place without hesitation.

Our waiter was so friendly and helpful, he was able to answer all questions asked and gave great reheating instructions. Service was also very fast.
There were 2 Caucasian families that for some reason kept staring at my family, making the visit uncomfortable until they all left.

Very good food, great service from a lovely older waitress who was beyond kind. Lots to look at as far as decor. I like that it’s still got personality in the decorations.

Just enjoyed a Margarita pizza with Italian sausage added. Absolute perfection, so flavorful, so delicious!

In short, it’s bad. Pizza and pasta both were really bad. Pizza was soggy, flimsy, and made with very cheap ingredients. Sauce was watery and bland. Pasta looked/tasted like barilla. They use food lion ice cream for their dessert.
Atmosphere is nice/nostalgic, I can tell this used to be a nice place 20-30 years ago. But today, you’d be better off with canned sauce and frozen pizza.

How did we forget this place? We ate at Monte Carlo two years ago visiting from Chicago and looking for a house. This was our first restaurant we went to. We finally came back and we loved it! The pizza is one of the best in Lynchburg! The garlic knots, calamari, spaghetti and meatballs and wine were also very good! Plenty to take home for an extra meal! We will be back very soon! Thank you Margarita for making us feel so special! Cheers to the Chef!
