Update:We went here for the second time and we were not disappointed. My wife had the cheese enchiladas again and I had the Cantina Bowl. The food was very good and the wait staff were friendly and attentive.
Our first time here. There was plenty of parking and seating when we arrived. They brought us chips and salsa, and we ordered the queso. They were both good, but a bit runny in my opinion. I prefer a thicker salsa and queso. My wife had the cheese enchiladas with a side of rice, and I ordered the steak and chicken fajitas. The dish came with refried beans, rice, lettuce, sour cream, and 3 flour tortillas. My wife enjoyed her enchiladas and the fajitas were very good. I’m sure we’ll be back. If you like Mexican food, you should definitely try this place.

We recently tried Monte Albán in Gates, and overall it was a really enjoyable meal. I’d give the food 4 stars — mostly because we were hoping for a little more heat in the spice level — but the flavors were great and the portions more than made up for it.
We started with the Queso Fundido appetizer and oh man… SO GOOD. Cheesy, melty, and packed with flavor — it disappeared from the table way too fast! Definitely something I’d order again.
For entrées, we had the Baja Tacos — one order with shrimp and one with tilapia. We could not believe how huge these tacos were. Packed full of fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked seafood, and bursting with flavor, they were honestly some of the most satisfying tacos I’ve had in a long time. Even though the spice level could have been a notch higher, the overall taste was fantastic and left us really impressed.
On top of the food, the staff was incredibly friendly and made the whole experience welcoming and relaxed. Service was prompt and attentive without ever feeling rushed, which gave the evening a nice, easygoing vibe. Prices were also very reasonable, especially when you consider how generous the portions are — you absolutely get your money’s worth here.
All in all, Monte Albán is a great choice if you’re craving hearty, flavorful Mexican food in Gates. With friendly service, huge portions, and dishes like that Queso Fundido and Baja Tacos, it’s a spot worth revisiting. A solid four-star experience.

A wonderful lazy birthday lunch with my friend. The peach margaritas were good and plentiful! The cheese steak tacos – delicious! (And two big enough so I could bring one home.) Our server was the best. A great experience…don’t miss it.

We recently visited Monte Alban after a movie at Tinseltown and had a great experience. The food was delicious, and the drinks were even better. We came in with a party of eight and were seated quickly, which was much appreciated. Service was attentive, and our food came out fast.

The new store is great in Gates. The staff were perfect and the food was great. I’ve always thought the choices at Monte have been too safe. I think they should explore some more traditional, off the beaten path dishes.

Don’t order the blue margarita… it didn’t taste good and I told my gf this and she was like don’t drink it then but I didn’t want it to go to waste so I drank it all… got home my stomach was rumbling. Had diarrhea all night and threw up 3 times.. great Friday 🙁

Went on Taco Tuesday this week. We both ordered the cantina bowls. One without beans. It took 15 minutes for the food which was brought to us by another server. Our waitress never came to check on us although the server said she would. We had to flag her down for salsa and sour cream. She then disappeared for another 20 minutes. When she came back we told her we thought she went home. She took the empty plates and then never brought the check. After 10 minutes we had to flag her down again for the check. That was another 5 minutes later. You have to pay the waitress so I got up to go find her. At the end of the day our bowls arrived without any queso as listed on the menu and we were charged 2.00 for a little cup of jalapeños and 1.50 for an ounce of sour cream. I will probably never go to eat in person again and stick with take out praying the order is right when I get home. I suggest not going on Tuesday and maybe eat at the bar for service that is more focused.
