Last Saturday a dear friend picked me and said “We’re off to parts unknownn”.

Into try this know better than to argue therefore I enjoyed the ride as we arrived at Montana’s restaurant in Central City.

I’ve been told by my associate “You need to try this place”, it appears today is the day.

The eatery decor matches the name to a “T”. The main room is filled with western pictures, artifacts and some field implements suggesting your in the state of Montana.

A half circle raised counter with several tables fills the room comfortably, plenty of family room! The additional outlying booths along the walls are an welcomed feature.

10th February 2021 Edit!

Ever since my first chow down at Montana’s it’s our Sunday morning destination for breakfast.

I’ve been eating here for over a year and have gotten to know the owners Jim and Cindy.

Ya don’t see much of Cindy she’s usually cooking the grub, Jim on the other hand is waiting tables, well kinda.

Getting his attention isn’t easy. He spends more time talking to everyone, it’s easier to get your own coffee and utensils!

Most of the folks who know Jim know when he asks for instance “How would you like your eggs?” Do Not make the mistake and say “Surprise me,” ya could get three raw eggs in the shell on your plate!

My adventure had to do with pancakes. First I clarified I wanted four(4). What size, here’s that proverbial mistake, I said “Oh I don’t care surprise me!” See the photos below, they’re over a months time but hilariously done by Jim himself.

Speaking of the food it’s all delicious! I’ve had breakfast and lunch enjoying every savory bite!

I’ve been told you don’t ask for a “Doggie Bag,” therefore I choke down every bit of chow, and let me tell ya if ya go away hungry it’s your fault!

Jim is why we go, I sticking my neck out but I’ll say it anyway, I’m proud to call him my friend! He’s got a big heart who loves his family and genuinely a nice guy full of fun and laughter!

Go and enjoy the chow this volunteer fire captain for Central City Iowa and his wife Cindy whip up!

We went to this place for lunch. When we walked in, there was no one in the place but one gentleman at the bar. When we looked around there were a few tables that still had dishes on them from previous customers and we found it hard to find a table that was cleaned off. The gentleman that was at the bar got up and brought us over menus. We asked for water. He brought us over warm water (no ice). We ordered. The food was okay. The restaurant could be cleaned better.

Food was delicious and worth the long wait (even when the restaurant was not busy). However, the service left much to be desired. The waiter was going for the ornery attitude and came across as plain rude. We requested politely that he turn off an offensive show and he refused. That really put a dampener on our enjoyment. Not a very family friendly atmosphere. We will definitely not return nor recommend it.

Delish, large portions. Very clean. Do NOT let the facade of an old building keep you away. We like it so much my husband took the grandkids there for breakfast a few days later. They were impressed with the size of the pancakes!

Coffee was weak and they only had powder creamer, no half and half. I had to ask for milk. The waiter was pretty rude. The restaurant wasn’t busy but the wait was long. Food was good though. So if you’re willing to put up with bad coffee, long wait and bad service, then it might be worth it for ya. I will most certainly not return here. I’d rather eat convenience store breakfast burritos and drink gas station coffee than go there again.

We went there tonight with the kids and grandkids. The pizza was great and so was the staff. The grandkids were given ice cream after dinner by the staff. Great place for the family.
We have been there for breakfast and supper and have tried their other menu items. Nothing is bad!
