REALLY good meat! The sliced tri-tip and chopped brisket were excellent. Perfectly tender. Not mushy and not dry. I don’t use much bbq sauce, and really appreciate the quality of the bbq here. Too many bbq places really depend on the sauce to make an impression. Not Montana BBQ.
The local bread they serve really elevates the sandwiches to another level!
Fries were very good. They have their own special seasoning.
Service was friendly and genuine—the way that makes you appreciate a local business over big chains.
And for anyone who scoffs at the prices, bbq takes a lot of time and effort that people tend to overlook just because they can serve it up rather quickly. Quality food takes time and good ingredients, please be mindful of that.
Some very critical thoughts that in no way take away from the main attraction…
Mac and cheese: pasta was way too soft and offered no pasta texture. Not very cheesy. Perfect if you are in the mood for a very buttery pasta side.
BBQ sauces: on the sweeter side of bbq sauces. The spicy is not much different from the regular. I would call it zestier rather than spicy.

I enjoyed my meal very much. The staff was courteous to everyone I saw come in. The owner went over the Thanksgiving Turkey packages several times and not once wasn’t happy to do so. I live in Chandler and was in town for work, but will make a day trip up just to have BBQ here. I had the Montana Dog with Mac n Cheese.

The pulled pork Sammy was so smokey, tender., just the right amount of crispy end and the sauce was the perfect highlight. The Coleslaw had raspberry dressing was the tastiest blend with cabbage and peppers,cilantro and green onions, I couldn’t put it down.
My partner said the taco salad was so deliciously different with the smoked pulled pork, spinach,lettuce , tomato, tender beans, cheese, and a generous helping of homemade salsa. She felt it was very nutritious and a new taste experience. We’re going back soon and often.

As we drove by it, saw Montana BBQ! I said yass turn around! It was definitely worth the stop! Food was amazing and staff was great!! A must go when in Prescott.

I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries. The flavor in the sauce was perfect. The meat was moist and magical so delicious. The fries tasty. Next time I’ll order them well done because I like my flies crispy. It’s on the pricey side I think. But really good. The restaurant is Cozy in a small way. The help is a little on the slow side and could be more knowledgeable. Room for improvement. I recomend you try them out, I liked it and I’m going back!

Go to Montana’s if you want REAL soul food!!
As soon as my partner and I drove past this place, I KNEW I was in for a treat! The staff was so incredibly kind and friendly, I really felt at home here! I ordered a root beer float, baked mac and cheese, and fries, and my partner ordered the bowl of soul with pulled pork! I also ordered a slice of the triple berry cobbler a la mode to share. When I tell you this is the most flavorful soul food I’ve EVER had, I’m not kidding! And I’ve had a LOT of soul food in my day. Every bite of each food item was just as delicious and mesmerizing as the first bite. And the staff could tell I was in pure bliss! They were happy that we were delighted with our meal, and they even slid me a free root beer to top off my float! If you can, I implore you to try that cobbler. It’s probably the most delicious thing I’ve eaten to date. And I’m a picky eater!!
Montana’s BBQ delivered truly unparalleled service and food to us. I can’t wait to go back to Arizona – and to make my first stop Montana’s yet again!

My husband and I where traveling from California to Prescott and decided to stop for lunch.The food was great! And the service was exceptional!! The waitress was so friendly and nice she gave us good information about Prescott and tips where to go and stay.She even gave the flowers from the table saying they where for a beautiful lady! So sweet of her.Wish I got her name.Will definitely be going there again!

I agree with another reviewer: just meh! pulled pork sandwich was good, but the coleslaw was gross…that’s more like a cabbage salad with a vinaigrette…and the sweet tea was awful! It was so sweet a hummingbird would have rejected it…there was so much sugar in the tea, that it was undrinkable…definitely won’t be getting another meal there…too bad, because it seemed like it had decent reviews…oh well, best of luck.
