We’ve been to Madame Vo so we had high expectations of this place. We didn’t get the braised beef shank because it was $125 and we opted to try more variety. Might be down to come back and get the beef shank.
Chicken salad was good and the platter stood out. Crispy pork belly was also very good. A lot of these dishes they bring over rice paper so you make rolls yourself which was also an excellent experience.
Was slightly surprised by the crab fried rice because it was on the sweeter side.
Would skip the curry and other appetizers next time.
Good for family style!
The beef shank is amazing and is a must order. Sure, it’s $125, but not bad split between a larger group. It’s like 3 lbs of meat that falls right off the bone and we even had leftovers to bring home for sandwiches. Plenty of other great dishes too and the sake was flowing. Highly recommend!
The beef shank is worth the hype, super delicious and a large portion, even good as leftovers.
Beef tartare was good, I don’t remember the name of our other apps, but everything tasted great. Drinks were also refreshing and delicious.
Check this place out, definitely a must try place in the city.
We went on a Tuesday evening around 7pm with no reservations… Thankfully, we got a seat right away! The hostess was very warm and friendly. Her energy really made us feel welcome and at ease. The waiter was accommodating as well as efficient.
We ordered the fried okra in a spicy mint sauce as our appetizer. It came quickly and was delectable! The perfect start to our meal! The sauce was tangy and slightly spicy which complemented the okra so well! For mains, we got the fried tofu on top of rice, unfortunately the only vegetarian main on the menu for now and the pork belly which is eaten rolled in lettuce with vermicelli and shredded pickled carrots.
The portions were generous, enough for one person to feel full and satisfied at the end. Our meals did not disappoint! The dishes bursted with authentic Vietnamese flavours and they were also aesthetically presented! Bravo to the kitchen staff!
We also shared a lychee drink which was sweet and refreshing!
The vibes were also immaculate! Very modern and elegant! Tasteful music selection which was at a decent volume…. Great place to go with your date! 😉
Decided to try Monsieur Vo last night and it didn’t disappoint. A lot of traditional Vietnamese flavors with a modern twist.
We did not have a reservation prior but called 30 minutes before arriving. Was it fate? I think it was.
We arrived as planned but it was a busy Thursday night. We were seated at the bar as we waited for our table which didn’t take too long for it to be prepared and got to try their cocktails during our wait. Was just a tad bit sweet for my taste but my fiancé enjoyed hers then she decided on wine for dinner, which is a plus cause she loves her wine.
Now, on to our appetizer and entree. We decided to try the:
1. Bahn Khot – was a nice stater, was not over filling but flavors worked well! We enjoyed it.
2. Com Chief Cua – we liked it but felt there was not much crab in our dish as hoped for but the flavor was great! I would recommend.
3. Beef Shank – we were not ready the amount of beef headed our way, but it was GREAT! It was super tender, flavorful and juicy! A lot for 2 people but we did it anyways and glad we had enough to take some home.
So I was told the restaurant is the “husband” restaurant of Madame Vo, which makes sense now. Both restaurants were great, depending on what are looking for. From what I remember of Madame Vo, its menu focused on more of a traditional/classic take on dishes vs Monsieur Vo having a twist using Vietnamese flavors to enhance dishes, but not necessarily a fusion of different cuisines.
We said we would go back another time and would try the dishes we didn’t get to order but we recommend it.
Love that the Vietnamese food scene is becoming more visible in NYC!
Service was phenomenal. They were attentive, kind and gave great suggestions!
The place is so cute so if you need to show someone the wow factor of NYC, hit it up and get the beef shank!
