This place is down the block from my house, so I have definitely given them plenty of chances before this review. The only time I wasn’t disappointed was when they first opened. I kept returning for convenience, but I’m done giving second chances. I will not be ordering from them again.
Sorry to complain, I actually rarely do. I’m just a hangry girl right now.
What I can say is this when the people working the grill are on there A game I’d go here at least once a week for my work lunch or dinner but the problem is it’s almost a coin flip if it’s gonna be a good day at the Monroe deli.
On the off days I’d pick an item I’d get regularly and the staff would look at me puzzled like I had order some complex meal, I’d literally have to explain the item to them off of there menu as it’s described in the menu to ensure that they knew what I was ordering and even after pointing it out in the menu and explaining what it was again it was still a coin flip if what I got was what I asked for.
Other times is order something and then when it was ready for pick up only half my order was there and when I’d ask they’d say sorry were understaffed and the grill person didn’t see the order correctly. Which I could understand if it was super busy and it wasn’t written down on the same ticket as the rest of my order.
The last complaint is the grill times, for what it’s worth I get business may not be but the grill closes super early the previous owners main point of sale was that grill and it was open most of the day but they now close the grill at 4 and that wouldnt be an issue except on multiple occasions I’d try to order dinner before 4 only to be told sorry the grill is off for the day.. And I am not talking I walked in at 3:58 as they are shutting down no I’ve been there at 3:30 , 3:25, 3:40. Basically it seems that the 4 o’clock deadline they advertise is more like a suggestion to the staff but they shut that grill down as soon as they can which kinda sucks for the customer trying to pick up dinner on there way into work which is especially surprising since the actual store front is supposed to close at 6pm it’s almost like they are afraid to make money or something.
As far as the store front.. it’s hit or miss as well when the new owners took over they stocked up the shelves and cigarettes but since then it seems like they are just waiting for the inventory to completely run out before they shut down. an example would be I purchase a rather common popular brand of cigarettes which they had for about the first 4 months of the take over but then they ran out and it’s been over a year and they have never restocked it.
At the end of the day the food is great when they get it right and I still buy my lunch there when I can but other then that I don’t really shop there any more cause they either don’t have what I need or I can’t count on them to up and running.
Starting with the good—the customer service was great when placing my order. The person on the phone was friendly, helpful, and made the process super easy. When I arrived to pick up my order, everything was ready on time and the process was quick and smooth. No waiting around, no confusion. On top of that, the pricing is very affordable, which is always appreciated, especially for a breakfast platter.
I ordered the breakfast platter for takeout, which came with pancakes, bacon, eggs, and home fries. Unfortunately, the meal just didn’t live up to expectations. The pancakes were extremely small—honestly smaller than silver dollar pancakes—and were in my opinion clearly frozen and reheated. They lacked flavor, texture, and any kind of freshness. Rhey didn’t have that fresh, fluffy texture you’d hope for! The syrup was watery and didn’t help the situation at all.
The bacon was just okay—nothing crispy or flavorful, just kind of there. The eggs were probably the most disappointing part. They were way over-salted, to the point where it really took away from everything else on the plate. The home fries were average, but compared to the rest of the meal, they were probably the most enjoyable part.
It’s a shame, because the staff is great, and the takeout process was seamless. I really wanted to enjoy the food more, but it just didn’t deliver. Maybe they do better with other menu items, but based on this experience, I’m not rushing to order breakfast again anytime soon.
