Not for everyone but Monks place is a dive, situated in an old gas station headed down princess ann road towards the NC border. If you pass a place that has a lot of bikes outside that’s the place. Blink and you’ll miss it as you enter a left curve, it’s deep on the right. great service, great burgers and fries, interesting decor, and really interesting characters. Don’t think about making trouble there, you’ll notice the frogman comics and the seal insignia on the wall and you better reconsider. Bring cash because they don’t take credit cards, but there’s an ATM right there as well.
Not a lot of seats but there are some outside if the weathers nice.
I’ve only been in the evening but Ive heard that there’s a line on a nice weekend (hence the bikes) so be prepared for a wait.
O yeah did I mention the great burgers.
Update: I came back for lunch on the Sunday before Thanksgiving with my son and wife for burgers. We all enjoyed our lunch.
And Brittany is just downright friendly.

We visited Monk’s today based on a recommendation, and it did not disappoint! Traveling from Nebraska, we were looking for a great local spot, and Monk’s delivered. Mary, our server and cook, was absolutely amazing and very friendly. She was very busy as the only working and was doing a great job! The cheeseburger alone was worth the drive from Chesapeake, cooked to perfection and packed with flavor. And the fried pickles? Hands down, some of the best we’ve ever had! If we ever find ourselves back in the area, Monk’s will definitely be on our must-visit list.”

The first thing I need to say here is there is no sign on the outside, so you need to know where it is, or follow your GPS. Also, be aware it is cash only. Of course I showed up with no cash, but they have an ATM inside. The staff are really friendly. Atmosphere is quite cool, and the kind of place I thoroughly enjoy. My burger was great, and it and the fries came out hot. I put a couple of pictures in here of how you get to the restroom, so be forewarned there are steps down to it.

Small family owned bar/restaurant specializing in burgers and other handheld, plus apps and wings. Husband and I stopped in for the first time and was greeted by the server. We ordered the small Monk burger with fries, and my husband ordered the grilled bologna sandwich with cheese and onion plus onion rings and a couple soft drinks. Our food came out promptly, but honestly, we were hoping that the “thick” slice of bologna was thicker than the onion and the cheese on the sandwich. It was easily about an ounce of bologna. The burger had just the right sear, with a slight pink center. Nice! I can’t say enough about the service. The owner’s daughter was amazing, and took time to tell the story about how her family took over the pub and cater to the biker crowd on Thursday Bike Night. We like the idea of having a cool little place to ride to when we’re out on the bikes. We may give them another chance and try some other items on the menu, but the bologna sandwich would be a no for us in the future.

Stopping in for lunch earlier, I got the Philly with onion rings . Chicken tenders , fried pickles , and a monks burger. The food was good and service was also. Just a small little dining area and outdoor seating also

Food was decent but service was very slow even though we didn’t order any complicated food and the place was not overly busy. Please ask questions if you have any because they are not forthcoming with any info.
If you get burgers, sides are extra. Kids will be charged for sides even if they decline them. I asked if my son could get 2 hotdogs instead of fries and the waitress said sure but then we got charged for 2 full kids meals for him (so $14) for 2 hot dogs.
Frustrating lunch experience.

Upon the first bite of our burgers, wife and i locked eyes and laughed. She immediately blurted out “this is the best burger ive had”.

We have an affinity for hole in the wall places and this is one! Went on a Monday evening and there was only 1 girl working as restaurants are usually slow on Mondays. She worked hard for our party of 7. She had a couple at the bar and two pick up orders and handled everything with ease. Indoor is small but atmosphere is excellent. Food was great standard American fare.
