We were in town hitting some local breweries and had heard from several people that this was the place to go for BBQ. The place is large and had plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our only disappointment was the food. We ordered a rack of ribs, Mac and cheese, collared greens, and pickles. The ribs had a really thick coat that included a LOT of brown sugar. It made them very difficult to eat and the brown sugar overpowered everything. The collared greens were not completely cooked and were a bit chewy. The Mac and cheese was al dente which we thought was strange. The pickles were excellent and the sweet tea was also outstanding. It was disappointing because we really liked everything else about the place. Maybe it was just an off night. I would give it another try and order something else

This place was soooo good. Highly recommend. Food came out very fast. Meat was tasty and tender. The meat on the ribs literally fell right off the bone into my mouth. Also had an amazing array of BBQ sauces to chose from. Sweat tea was SWEET

Delicious moist and succulent brisket, decent slaw, and a unique sauce dispensing station. The cornbread was on the buttery side, which I like. The nachos were legit. The self-seating and service thing seemed to work well. This place was busy when I went there for dinner. I’ would definitely go back next time I’m in the area.

Great BBQ! Portions are big and the marinade is delicious. The ribs have a really good marinade and perfectly fall off the bone level. We also got their burnt ends which were delicious as well. Soft and easy to eat. They have a good variety of barbecue sauces and sides as well. Their Mac and cheese is a must. Potato salad was great too. For dessert both banana and dirt pudding were delicious.

Best BBQ spot in VA. We got a platter to try multiple meats and all were solid. The burnt ends and pastrami were my favorites. There is a fun sauce dispensing station with great tasting sauces.

Very reasonable prices for good barbeque. Tons of sauce dispensers for so many great flavors. We got the piglet and it was massive…so much food and variety with all the meats. I would avoid the nachos….I got the brisket chili nachos and it left a lot to be desired…. No actual meat…just alpo canned dog food chilli on it.

I went to Monk’s before opening, and there were few groups waiting there. I came with 2 guests who had never tried bbq before, and they loved it. Corn bread seems a bit different than before, but it’s still good. My favorite is pastrami! My kids love it too!

I’m going to start this by pointing out that it is a local favorite for a lot of folks. But, personally, it’s just not my favorite place… even as a fan of BBQ in general. Our family has tried it several times and each time are just not that impressed.

Got the half sampler. Ribs are fantastic, burnt ends, pastrami and chicken are really good. Brisket leaves something to be desired. House BBQ is good. They get very busy to arrive early! One of the better BBQ spots in the DMV. Collared greens are more vinegary and not what I expected.

Have to say after kept seeing this place and multiple people telling me to give it a shot. Food was fantastic. Can’t say for anybody else but ribs were great. If they have bad days which I assume, it wasn’t today when I visited. Monks is at least worth a shot and I live close to DC.
