All three pizzas that we had were delicious. I especially like the kalua pork and pineapple pizza since I like pineapple pizzas. Don’t judge personal preference.
The monkeypod mai tai was tasty as many have described it to be. We tried both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic, both were good so if you prefer no alcohol, you can choose that.
There was a live band when we went which was nice and lively.
What didn’t go so well:
1) the chicken wings served were partially charred, charred that it tasted bitter that we started scraping. Surprised that they think it was reasonable to serve that.
2) even if you wait in line for them to call, it’s assumed you should check in with them even when they haven’t called you since we couldn’t be seated on our first attempt in a timely manner until we asked (which they then readily said they could seat us now) but we were too annoyed by such treatment that we just left. Second time was better. So, tip to management, something has to be done to be consistent among the employees staffing the check in desk.
Monkey pod total for one $129
-Mai tai 8/10 $20 (for the price I would have chosen a different drink)
Banana cream pie 8/10 $15
-Lobster deviled eggs 5/10 $20
(Didn’t love these; the amount of lobster wasn’t enough to justify this price, and the filling was subpar)
-Seafood chef special 10/10 $58
– this was the winner. Idk that it had a name other than it being the chefs special, but it was Mahi mahi with a lemon blanc creamy sauce, lobster bits (2oz maybe?) lobster mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts.
Everything on this plate was phenomenal!)
Banana creme pie 7/10 $15
– it was good, but sweeter would have been better.
We stayed at the Sheraton, and it was such a short walk. We’d highly recommend this spot! If you want to get seated quicker, just tell them you are okay with the bar. Thankful for excellent service from Dane and a willingness to talk about local life. We’d highly highly recommend.
After being seated, we asked for water and straws. The server forgot the straws, and we had to remind him.
We ordered a flatbread pizza, a Caesar salad, chicken wings, and shrimp empanadas.
The flatbread pizza arrived first and was burned all over on the bottom. I was hungry and still ate most of it, but we did complain. To their credit, they said they would remove it from the bill. The taste itself wasn’t terrible, but it should never have been served in that condition.
Next came the Caesar salad, which was a complete disappointment. The dressing had a strong fishy taste (likely anchovy-heavy), to the point where my wife couldn’t even eat more than a bite or two. We sent it back.
Then my chicken wings arrived — easily the worst wings I’ve ever had. They were small, overcooked/burned, and the sauce served with them wasn’t ranch or anything expected — it tasted like plain yogurt, which made no sense with wings.
The only item that was somewhat decent was the shrimp empanadas my wife ordered. They were fine, but one okay dish doesn’t save the experience.
Overall, this was a total disappointment. Long wait, poor execution, burned food, strange flavors, and dishes that never should have left the kitchen. Even though one item was taken off the bill, it doesn’t fix the experience.
I would not return and would not recommend this restaurant.
Definitely on my list of places to go.
Thanks for the experience.
We stopped in for a quick bite before taking one of the standard tourist tours. I got the the Maui Cattle Company Cheese Burger with fries. It was really good, done just right too. It was definitely not some dried out bar burger. The fries were down well as well.
My wife went straight for pie and booze. She got the orange creamsicle pie and a Mai Thai. The pie was great. Luckily she gave me a bite first because if she didn’t, she definitely would not have shared, and I would not be able to tell you how good it was.
Stop in, get some pie, and enjoy the ocean view from the outdoor deck or seats nearby. You won’t be sorry.
MonkeyPod’s live music program is outstanding. On one visit, we enjoyed Mario and Jess’s fantastic set – Mario’s ukulele playing paired beautifully with Jess’s vocals, and they complement each other perfectly. On another evening, we had the pleasure of experiencing Damien Awai’s performance, which brought incredible aloha vibes to the whole venue.
All the musicians play a great variety of songs that keep the atmosphere fun and engaging. Their talent and genuine love for what they do really shines through. The combination of amazing live music, delicious drinks, and the beautiful setting makes MonkeyPod a must-visit.
If you see any of these artists are playing, definitely stop by – they made both of our evenings truly memorable!
Highly recommend!
