During my first visit to Monarca, I was disappointed with the overall experience. The establishment was excessively priced, and the food quality did not meet my expectations.
The “flight dip” street corn was underwhelming, with minimal ingredients. The guacamole was acceptable, while the cheese dip was simply cheese. I also tried the street tacos ($22 for four tacos) and a California burrito ($21). Unfortunately, the meat on both menu items was tough and lacked flavor.
In comparison, I can obtain similar burritos and tacos elsewhere at significantly lower prices and with better quality/flavor. The exorbitant prices at Monarca seem to be primarily attributed to the decor and overall ambiance of the restaurant.
In all honesty, I do not anticipate returning to Monarca at all again.

Our first visit to Monarca Modern Mexican Kitchen in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Let me say it was worth the wait. The atmosphere, the food and service were all excellent. This place is decorated with such tasteful touches. The mural painting on the back wall is simply stunning and beautiful. The details are stunning! The Flight Dips were excellent! The Queso was smooth and creamy; the Street Corn was excellent, tender and flavorful; the Guacamole was fresh and flavorful. Definitely a must order item. The only thing I would improve on was the steak in my Mar Y Tierra Burrito was tough and chewy. Too chewy to be honest. The half that I brought home I picked out the steak and tossed it. The shrimp were excellent in both the burrito and enchiladas. We will definitely be back here soon. This shopping area needed a restaurant like this so we wish them great success.

The Steak Enchallada’s were amazing. Plenty of steak and cheese in the three enchallada’s served with a side of delicious rice.
The Mar Y Tierra Burrito was huge and delicious. Filled with steak, shrimp, rice and cheese..topped with pickled onions and guacamole and sour cream on the side…and the little tomato was a pleasant surprise.
The raspberry and mango margaritas were refreshing.
The chips were light and the salsa was some of the best in recent memory.
Upscale decor Mexican restaurant is my takeaway and it was delicious.
