Stopped into Monarca in Medina today and thought the place looks cool inside. The décor is vibrant and has a butterfly , Frida Kahlo and Dia De Los Muertes vibe. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming.

I originally came for the Mexican street corn and also ended up trying the tortilla soup. It had just the right amount of spice and was loaded with shredded chicken. I also ordered the Tinga chicken tacos, which came in as 3 soft tacos. Great portion-size. We asked if they had any homemade hot sauce in the back, and they brought some out—great heat, great flavor.

We got homemade guacamole, which tasted incredibly fresh, like something you’d get in Mexico. My lunch partner had the Barbados Street Tacos, and there wasn’t a single thing either of us could complain about.

The prickly pear margarita was like being in the west !! Yum

Will return.

What a pretty and comfy place to enjoy some creative Mexican dishes! We loved the lit tree in the middle. Margarita flight was very tasty! I had the street corn which was one of the best I’ve had anywhere. Tacos were really authentic tasting and even the rice was flavorful and moist! Our server was very friendly and helpful. I’d def recommend

Went for a multi-birthday, multi-generational dinner for 6 on a Sunday. Easy reservation process with a phone call. Service was great – seated part of our party early, kept them happy with drinks and chips and salsa, and were attentive and gracious even as the rest of us arrived and we took a while to get settled and decide on orders. Food came fast and was very good, all the birthday diners were especially happy with the seafood dish. Much appreciated! It had much more seating than it appeared to have from the front. Odd note: restrooms were really cold on a cold winter day (but hopefully you’re not spending much time in there.) Parking tip: although there is a small parking lot next to and behind the restaurant, most of the spots seemed to be labeled for other businesses. No problem, just park on the Square, in pull-in angled spots along the Square. I got a spot that was closer to the front door than parking behind the building anyway. Easy to find this place on the north side of Medina Square. Great food, atmosphere, service – and supporting a local business.

This is not basic “fast” Mexican food, it is elevated dishes. If you are looking for fast Mexican, this is not for you. The palette is slightly more complex, the presentation is elevated and beautiful. The atmosphere is like no other. The decor and theme is stunning and whimsical. What a gem! We got so many dishes and drinks, they were all delishes! Alex, our server was amazing!

I’ve stopped in here a few times for my lunch break and the food is always amazing. Service is super fast, friendly, and attentive. The decor inside is really cool and artistic so the dining experience is fun too. Prices are very reasonable and the location is great. Definitely one of my favorites in Medina!

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve eaten here. If you want genuine, high quality Mexican food, this is the only place to go in Medina. The tacos and maduro are amazing. The margaritas are also top notch. Good flavor, good alcohol content, good price. I get the basic frozen lime margarita every time. Lastly, the service has never been lacking. Even when they’re busy, it is still good, and all the servers are friendly. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough!

On our way to Cleveland, was told to make this stop. Man oh man I’m glad we did!! This town is nice, cool. And the location of Monarca right across the town square. The setting, the food and the staff are great. You come by here you have to stop and eat here!!! And our server Mike was great.

The frozen Margarita’s were “the best we had in years”! The food was fresh and delicious. The guacamole and queso were outstanding. The salsa was fresh, a little too mild for my taste buds, could have used a little heat. Our server was very attentive and sweet. The entrees arrived quickly, served hot, and everyone loved their selection. The kid’s birthday song was a little too loud with all the noise makers, but brief. Everyone was having a good time here. Best of all, the place is pretty big and no waiting on a Friday night at 5:30. A hidden gem for sure!

Update:
We’ve been back to Monarca Cantina several times now, most recently during the Ice Festival. By getting there early, we managed to beat the dinner rush and were seated immediately, though the place was completely packed by the time we finished.

The Drinks:
The bar remains a highlight. We tried a tropical-flavored special that arrived with an actual flame—it was a great touch and tasted excellent. I also had the ginger margarita; it’s a solid choice if you prefer something well-balanced and not overly sweet.

The Food & Service:
We ordered the street tacos and a burrito bowl. Both were fresh and flavorful. Whether you consider it authentic Mexican or high-end Tex-Mex, the quality is consistent. As always, the service was outstanding despite how busy the staff was.

Parking:
Parking directly on the square is usually a headache. I highly recommend using the free parking garage off Liberty Street. It’s only a short walk away and much easier than circling the block.

Original Review:
That was our second visit to Monarca Cantina in Medina, and it was fantastic! The restaurant’s decor is beautiful, featuring large Mexican murals and local art, which create a wonderful atmosphere for dining.

Everything was great during our visit. We enjoyed the cocktails, entrées, and dessert. The food came out quickly. Everything tasted fresh flavorful and fresh. I had the tacos Vallarta, which were bursting with flavor, and my husband had the cochinita pibil, which was cooked to perfection. The tres leches cake was not only tasty but also huge, definitely more than enough to share. The service was attentive and friendly, ensuring we felt well taken care of throughout our meal.

Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience, and we highly recommend Monarca Cantina for anyone looking for delicious Mexican cuisine and excellent service!
