5/5 — An Unforgettable Omakase Experience

We came in to celebrate my wife’s bday and from the moment we walked in, I knew this omakase dinner would be something special. The atmosphere was intimate and elegant without feeling pretentious — perfect for savoring every moment. Chefs Robert and Eddie was not only incredibly skilled but also personable, explaining the inspiration behind each course with genuine passion.

A special shoutout to our server, Ryan, who made the evening even more enjoyable. He was very attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm — always appearing at just the right moment with a smile, sake pairing, or thoughtful explanation. His presence really elevated the experience.

Every piece of sushi was a work of art. The fish was impeccably fresh — melt-in-your-mouth toro, perfectly balanced uni, and an unforgettable seared wagyu that still lingers in my memory. The progression of flavors was thoughtful and harmonious, with subtle transitions that made each bite feel like part of a story.

The attention to detail extended beyond the food: the pacing was perfect, the sake pairings elevated each dish, and the service team was attentive without being intrusive.

This is more than just a meal — it’s an experience that celebrates craftsmanship, seasonality, and heart. If you’re looking for an omakase that feels personal, refined, and deeply satisfying, this is the place to go. We will definitely be returning soon.

WORLD-CLASS GRACE meets CULINARY ARTISTRY

As someone who has dined at well-regarded restaurants to Michelin-starred restaurants to celebrity-chef restaurants, Momoyama is deserving of critical recognition!

Having been accompanied by discerning Japanese friends, we find their cuisine refined, delicate, sophisticated. Very much comparable to the Kansai-style. This is not a surprise given the distinguished pedigree of the executive chef and his team.

Always get the omakase, it will feel like a spiritual journey!
From the opening dish to the concluding suimono soup, it will feel like a zen experience.

As a recent returning customer, I felt the owners, executive chef, and staff deserves also special praise. Due to Valentines weekend, they were fast to respond, warmly gracious, and professionally accommodating to overcome a scheduling mishap and misunderstanding. It was the type of world class service and humble aplomb that ultimately made the impossible possible. The type of courtesy you would find in Asia/Japan or from renown establishments like Four Seasons.

And for that, this makes Momoyama one of the most unique Japanese Restaurants in Orange County. We will continue to be back.

Expectations were high and were exceeded the customer service process and overall experience was refined, polished and exceptional. My husband took me here for Valentines dinner. It was a 20 course three hour culinary fantasy come true. It was not the most adventurous Omakase, but it was delicious, of high-quality, and serve served with pride that you can feel.

One of the cheaper high quality omakase. The rice on the nigiri on the sweeter side. Seafood is fresh, uni had to be separately ordered. Wish it had sweet shrimp or lobster. The anago temaki dont really care for.

I was wowed with the freshness of the sushi and sashimi. There were types of fish I had never heard of like ocean trout, and all of it was delicately seasoned to not overtake the fresh, subtly unique natural flavors of each fish and shellfish. The service could not be more hospitable, charming, and attentive without being imposing. You can ask questions of the staff and chefs who warmly explain specialties. To say that the experience was gourmet and refined is not doing the whole welcoming experience justice for newbies like me. What a pleasure! While the price is elevated for the high quality of the food, I recommend Momoyama enthusiastically and will return at every opportunity.

Momoyama just dropped their brand new omakase menu and this is why you have to book your seats ASAP at this reservation-only omakase in Fountain Valley. From the moment we walked in, we felt super welcomed, and you get a dedicated chef who tells you every detail of the meal–shoutout to Chef Eddie.

By blending traditional sushi omakase with innovative modern twists, they’ve come up with truly creative dishes like seaweed tempura with ocean trout and even a strawberry on freshwater eel handroll.

Watching how every piece was assembled was incredible, and you can tell how much care they put into their craft.

We tried tuna tartare with freshly shaved truffle and ossetra caviar, ikura chawanmushi, BLUE snapper, decadent smoked toro, the freshest uni I’ve ever had, and too many delicious courses to list.

The food, service, and atmosphere were all a 10 out of 10.

Thanks for reading! ^-^

Amazing small restaurant, intimate but great with beautiful decor. Sushi chefs are sweet and very friendly, after the lunch rush was able to talk to them for a bit and get to know them. Each dish that came out was more amazing than the next, i’ve never been in more love with a restaurant, and I was smiling so widely throughout!!!

Momoyama is an underdog when it comes to the sushi game. Everyone is talking about n/naka, sushi Kaneyoshi, and all these other Michelin star sushi places, but I guarantee you that 99% of the common folk cannot tell the difference between a Michelin and a non-Michelin. Momoyama will give you the Michelin experience without spending Michelin money. To me, Japanese sushi has distinct qualities that make it special. Good sushi focuses on good quality ingredients, but it is also process heavy as well. The process would include, for example, how the rice is washed/prepared, the presentation, and the synergy between the fish/rice/sauces. If you have good ingredients, but all the wrong technique, then you get a crappy product. Momoyama has excellent execution (the chefs meticulously prepared the lunch service) and used the freshest ingredients. The presentation was beautiful and the meal was well paced. So don’t waste your money at a Michelin (unless you want to brag to your 100 followers). Come to Momoyama and get the top rated stuff for a great price.
