El Barrio Neighborhood Tacos is a modern Mexican restaurant created by South Bay native, Chef Ulises Pineda-Alfaro. By blending authentic recipes and refined techniques along with the finest ingredients sourced from local purveyors, El Barrio is serving up some of the best and most exciting Mexican food in Los Angeles. At El Barrio, you’ll find amazing tacos, mulitas, huaraches, burritos and antojitos highlighting fresh tortillas made with masa harina ground from Oaxacan single-origin heirloom corn and Sonoran flour tortillas, Carne Asada and Birria de res cooked low and slow with US wagyu beef, Al Pastor spit roasted on a trompo made with all natural pork. We are also the home of the Churro Donut aka Chu-Nut.

While LA taco seems to rate this place pretty highly, this did not seem to be our experience here. The ingredients certainly look great on paper but execution was mediocre in terms of speed. They have a lot of online orders and seem to prioritize them before in-store customers. Flavor-wise everything seems pretty good.

Stuffed with ridiculously tender and juicy shredded beef, eggs, tater tots, cheese, fire roasted salsa, and crema. Wrapped in a warm, soft flour tortilla with a crispy cheese crust. So good! and the portion is good enough for two. The breakfast box comes with chips, sauce, salsa, guacamole and a drink.

We used Ulysses and El Barrio to cater an event for a group of teenagers and everyone raved about the food with a few of the guests asking for the name of the place. The food was delivered hot and plentiful and on time. We did a build your own taco bar with carne asada, chicken, cauliflower mole, and rice and beans. All the meats were delicious and this was some of the tastiest rice we’ve ever had. More than enough chips and salsa, and even the guacamole didn’t run out, which almost never happens. The only speed bump was there was some confusion about serving ware, so just make sure you get that included in your invoice if you need it. Ulysses was amazing, though, and picked some up for us. Would definitely use them again. This was actually a much better experience than when we went to the restaurant to try all the tacos to figure out what we wanted. Then, it took a long time to get our order and we felt we didn’t get enough guac or salsas with our food. But the food tasted great so we took a chance on their catering and are glad we did.

We liked it, the biria meat is a good quality, we had biria loaded fries, the vegan tacos are tasty, and black beans as well. The only thing that I would do is add more of the mole sauce in the tacos. Thank you!

Don’t sleep on the cauliflower mole burrito. So flavorful—outside griddled with cheese. Yum! This was my first time at Barrio and I already can’t wait to return.

Came here thinking it was still Kogi’s so we gave it a try.
Got the box combo to go; each taco a la carte is $4.50 so the box was much more worth it. Comes with a lot. Al pastor and carne Asada were the tastiest, though very juicy and pretty if not eaten right away.

Update: Since Joe kindly reached out to me and since my husband enjoyed his food at least, I’ve updated the number of stars in my review. Apparently they substituted cilantro crema for avocado crema however as shown in my picture, it’s impossible to tell the two apart so please please do not substitute items in the future guys!
If you have any food allergies and need any sort of modifications done for your food, do not eat here! I ordered tacos from here for pickup and specifically mentioned repeatedly in postmates that I wanted no avocado since I’m highly allergic and yet when I picked up my food, drove all the way home, and opened my box, I saw avocado smothered all over each taco.
I ended up having to eat the chips and salsa as my dinner which were alright but I paid $16 for food which had to just be thrown out. Never visiting this restaurant again and I highly recommend if you have any allergies or food preferences even you do not come here.
