Molly J’s in Bakersfield, California, offers a cozy, homey atmosphere that has made it a local favorite for breakfast and lunch. The restaurant is known for its large portions and fresh-tasting dishes, with breakfast items consistently prepared fresh and served hot. The menu features a variety of hearty American classics, including chicken fried steak with eggs and home fries, and hot links with eggs and hash browns. Additionally, Molly J’s is renowned for its homemade pies and sizable biscuits, adding a comforting touch to the dining experience.

The service at Molly J’s is frequently praised for its quickness and friendliness, contributing to the restaurant’s welcoming environment. Many servers have been with the establishment for years, enhancing the familial atmosphere that patrons appreciate. While some diners have noted that certain dishes, such as pancakes, could be improved, the overall consensus highlights the restaurant’s clean setting, reasonable prices, and satisfying meals. It’s worth noting that weekends can be busy, potentially leading to short waits, but many consider the experience well worth it.

I had the Spanish omelette and really enjoyed it. The flavors were fresh, it was cooked well, and the portion was just right. Molly J’s has that classic local spot feel, the kind of place that’s been around for a long time and stays busy because people genuinely like it. You’re not going to get in and out quickly, but I wouldn’t call the service slow either. It’s more of a relaxed, take-your-time atmosphere where you can settle in and enjoy your meal. Overall, a solid breakfast experience with good food and a comfortable vibe.

The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The staff was friendly and it didn’t take long to get our food. The homestyle country cooking was delicious and very well made, especially the country potatoes. I will definitely be going back the next time I’m in the area.

Have passed this place while going to the store and decided to stop and give them a try. Nice family diner which reminded me of the one back in Whittier my grandma and I would go to so stopped and gave them a try. Food was delicious and services was great. Like that they have daily specials. Got the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and corn and was not disappointed. Have to come back and try there. Breakfast next time. If near the area and hungry give them a try.

Staff was nice and although they’re pretty dry/ flavorless you get complimentary cookies with the check. Burger was very mediocre basically no seasoning. French fries were amazing, cooked and seasoned very nicely. Patty melt was good served on rye bread though. They also have some desserts on display as pictured, didn’t try but they looked good. Overall it’s not worth the price honestly.

Over the years I’ve eaten breakfast or lunch here about a dozen times. Their food has always been consistently good.
This morning I ordered eggs, hamburger patty, hash browns and biscuits and gravy. The hamburger patty was hand pressed, fresh ground beef, not some pre-packaged frozen patty….it was delicious. All of my breakfast was delicious. Biscuit and gravy was fresh, fluffy and really good.
For reasons unknown not a lot of seasoning on food. I fixed it with a and pepper shaker. I will be returning soon.
My waitress was Rebecca, she did a wonderful job and was a pleasure.
