I ordered catering from this restaurant and everything was excellent. The food was delicious, fresh, and clearly made the same day. The service went above and beyond— they even traveled out of state to deliver my order at a very low cost. I was extremely impressed and would highly recommend them.

The green plantains were greasy and thrown in a paper bag with ketchup mayo cups. As well as high price. 3 pieces for 2.99. The sweet plantains. We’re small and black in outside. Also overpriced. Not happy with the food at all.

Absolutely Delicious Puerto Rican Cuisine!
The best in Connecticut!
From the moment I walked in, I felt the warmth and hospitality that Puerto Rican culture is known for. The aromas coming from the kitchen were incredible — a mix of savory spices, garlic, and sofrito that instantly made me hungry.
I ordered the mofongo overload and it was perfection — the plantains were crispy on the outside and soft inside, soaking up all the garlicky goodness of the sauce. The garlic shrimp, carnitas, and adobo was flavorful and perfectly seasoned, and the alcapurria de yuka were crispy little pockets of heaven.
The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was just right. The atmosphere was cozy and lively, with good music that added to the island vibe.
If you’re craving authentic Puerto Rican flavors, this spot is a must-visit. It’s like a little piece of Puerto Rico right here in the city — I’ll definitely be coming back for more!

First time to Mofongo and it won’t be my last! Went for lunch and got a pizza empanada mofongo and pernil with sweet plantains chicharon and pico. Serving was huge I’ll have enough for two more meals.. staff could not have been nicer and the space was very clean. The murals and artwork are beautiful!

We got the overload to try a little bit of everything! We also the pastelon, which is stacked with flavor, sweet plantains, sorillitos, and papa rellenos. The guys working were super friendly, and the food was delicious!

I recently visited the new Mofongo restaurant in Willimantic they are known for Puerto Rican and American fusion cuisine. The restaurant features a spacious dining area, creating a comfortable atmosphere for guests. From the moment I walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful, guiding me through the menu and assisting with my order. One of the highlights of Mofongo is the ability to build your own mofongo or rice bowl. Two of their most popular options are The Overload and The Shrimp Lovers—both of which I tried, and they were exceptional. The Overload lives up to its name, packed with generous portions of flavorful ingredient—it was heavy, lol.
The restaurant also offers a variety of appetizers, including empanadas, pinchos, sweet plantains, tostones, pastelón, canoa, alcapurria bites, and sorullitos. Everything I tasted was hot, fresh, and bursting with flavor.
To end the meal on a sweet note, I tried their tres leches cake, and it was absolutely incredible—easily the best I’ve ever had.
If you’re in Willimantic, I highly recommend stopping by Mofongo. Whether you’re a fan of Puerto Rican cuisine or trying it for the first time, this spot is a must visit!

Great place to dine at… a lot of options. Staff is friendly price is good. The chicken stew is amazing. I would recommend this place. We got four meals. The portions are pretty big. I also like the beef with onions. White rice and beans. Yellow rice with pigeon peese and roasted pork is good too. Beef patties are great. I spent 38$ for 3 meals. It was a ton of food. I would definitely go back today if I could.

My husband and I have passed by this restaurant several times and finally decided to stop in and give it a try. We were genuinely excited, especially given the reputation the name suggests.
We ordered mofongo with shrimp, rice with gandules, and pork. For appetizers, we tried the alcapurria and the escabeche.
Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. The rice was undercooked and hard, which immediately set the tone for the meal. The escabeche was overwhelmingly salty, making it difficult to enjoy. The pork lacked seasoning and flavor, which was surprising for a dish that should be rich and well-seasoned. The alcapurria had an unusual taste that, as my husband described it, resembled medicine. To make matters worse, the shrimp on the mofongo was severely overcooked—tough and rubbery. The mofongo itself was average at best and lacked the bold, savory flavor we expected.
We’ve dined at many restaurants serving similar cuisine, and sadly, this was one of the most disappointing experiences. We truly wanted to like it, but the food simply did not live up to the name or expectations.

If you’re craving bold, authentic and perfectly seasoned Puerto Rican flavor, this is the spot. From the moment you walk in, MofonGo delivers on both taste and hospitality. The welcoming staff will help your pick the best combos, the portions are huge, the ingredients are fresh, and the flavor? Next-level. Try the rice, empanadas, alcapurrias, mofongo, mango habanero chicken, maduros, tres leches or carrot cake for dessert, all are delicious. Eating at MofonGo feels like a mini island escape in the middle of town. And let’s not forget the vibes, they’re always playing great music while you eat, which makes the whole experience feel warm, fun, and full of energy. Definitely recommend if you’re in or near Willimantic, CT.
