The food is absolutely insane. I recommend the bolognese and marsala. The creme brûlée donuts are even a reason just to return. Jenna at the bar is so amazing and funny. Service amazing, food even better. Sit at the bar and have a great time with good food.

With only 3 other customers in the entire restaurant they refused to give us a booth even after we specifically asked (the owner said no) and instead we were stuck at a tiny high top very unstable and uncomfortable and sadly was not able to enjoy sitting next to my companion. It completely killed our vibe…The filet mignon we could’ve made better at home. Probably my companion would only return for a beer and never again for a date. Unfortunate that the service wasnt better theres absolutely no reason to be so strict about not sitting at a booth that was open right next to us. Our waitress was wonderful and even apologized for the OWNER being so ridiculous about it. 25 mins later other people were sat at a booth because apparently it was now the “right time” where they could sit there….I was offended and it was extremely poor customer service.

Their tuna tartare is really not a tartare, but it was still good.
Changing my review to 2 stars after I noticed that they are cheating on Tip Calculations, where they include the 8% Maine tax in it. Tips are on Food and Service and not on Tax! Not sure if that’s illegal in Maine but it’s definitely wrong and dishonest!

As a Local we visit all restaurants in Bethel. Drinks Dinner… The team at the Modern Barn were awesome. We all had the Curry dish. 1 scallops 1shrimp 1 chicken. All home runs. What’s really great is the team is always awesome! Thanks for finishing my work week on a great note!

The Thai shrimp great, Caesar salad great, oysters great. The filet mignon was disappointing, but maybe it was late at night. The staff is amazing. Wine list is the best of the best.

Waitress was cheerful and friendly but very slow to deliver orders to the table. The food was overpriced and poorly prepared. We shared a mussel appetizer that took an hour to find its way to our table and our entrees required an additional half hour to arrive. My seared scallops were barely singed and under cooked and sat on a gelatinous mound of lumpy coagulated risotto. A microscopic amount of crab was included in my wife’s pasta dish. The meal was disappointing, way overpriced and completely unsatisfying. We will not return or recommend. One of the worst gastronomic experiences of my long life.

Skeptical after reading other reviews but gave it a try and the food was absolutely amazing. Fish your way, salmon with Mediterranean sauce was excellent and my wife had the “Dilly” salad and it was the best salad ever!! The tempura chicken tenders are a MUST! Great service and atmosphere to boot! Will return again without a doubt!

I first went to this place Tuesday night. The food and service were good, if bit pricey. I spent $164 with tip for 2 people, but we did have 3 cocktails. When we returned two days later all but two of the booths were occupied, and we were told we could have the one table or sit at one of several hi-tops, one of which seats at least a dozen people. I asked for one of the remaining booths and was told no, as they were 6 tops and if 2 parties of 6 happened to arrive there would be nowhere for the 2nd group to sit. It wasn’t explained to me why the 2nd (hypothetical) group couldn’t be seated at the same hi-top we were offered. For what it’s worth, it’s also my birthday, but that made no impression on the staff. So the message I got was that I was less important than people who weren’t there (and might never come). I’m not the type to make a fuss, so I did what I always do in such situations; I took my money elsewhere. Ended up going to The Brick & Stone Tavern only 20 minutes away in Rumford, where the food and atmosphere were were at least as good, but with prices only half as much. Skip this place and go to Brick & Stone.
ETA: In the owners response, there is still no explanation for why the hypothetical party of 6 could not be seated at the same hi-top we were offered, which can accommodate 12 people. Apparently, the larger party is too good for a hi-top, but a couple is not. This is common in restaurants, where singles and couples receive a lower standard of service compared to larger parties. If the hi-top is good enough for me and my nephew then it’s good enough for anyone else. I refuse to be second class, especially at those prices. I won’t be back, but I dont think the owner cares

The food was absolutely delicious. The seating was a little uncomfortable as the stools had no back on them. The waiter was really nice and made our visit delightful. Will definitely be back. We had the candy bacon (2 pieces per order) and ribeye with loaded baked potatoes and asparagus. The steak was incredible and melted in your mouth. One of the most tender, delicious steaks I’ve ever eaten.

My partner and I just ate there the other night. Great atmosphere and an incredible wine selection, both red and white- a better selection than you will find in any other restaurant within a 30 minute drive, at the least.
The meat and cheese board was good, but I wish it came with a little more for the price.
Overall I enjoyed my time and will be back again in the future!
