We started with the avocado salad; one of ours had 7 slices of avocado (pictured) whereas the other only had 4 of similar size for some reason. It did taste really good though.
The crab rangoons were possibly the best we’ve had in awhile. They didn’t skimp on the filling though it wasn’t seasoned as it normally is.
The gyoza was also really good; crunchy outside, soft inside, and really good flavor both with and without the sauce.
From here we go downhill;
The Yaki Udon; I got the beef and my partner the chicken. The meat on both were overcooked, dry, and tough. The chicken had a decent flavor but the beef did not taste good and made the noddles taste weird so I did not finish it.
The sushi was very hit or miss, but mostly miss. Their fish did not seem like it was good quality, and many pieces had an overwhelming fishy taste. Some of the fish was also very chewy and rubbery, where I was still chewing the fish after everything else was gone. The rolls were not wrapped well and the rice was crumbly instead of sticky.
Of the sushi tray picture;
Top right; Avocado Cucumber Roll.
You can see the cucumber in one piece fell out before they even served it because they were so loose. They tasted okay but they were difficult to eat.
Bottom right; Freedom Roll. The shrimp tails were hard to pull off. For some reason 2 pieces had only avocado and the other 6 had only spicy tuna on top. I really only liked the avocado pieces because the creaminess goes well with the crunch of the shrimp tempura, whereas the spicy tuna pieces had nothing to tone down the fishiness.
Bottom Middle; The Topeka Roll. This one by far had the most chewy fish. Every other part of it tasted okay, though there was too much sauce, but everything else was gone long before the fish was so you were left with a bad fishy taste.
Bottom Right: Beach Spicy Roll. This was okay. It didn’t stand out as food or bad..not very spicy.
They also barely gave us enough Wasabi and ginger for one person let alone two.
The ice cream at the end was good.
We did get served very quickly after ordering which initially we were impressed by, but in hindsight we believe it was due to items being pre-cooked like the Yaki Udon, or done quickly and poorly like the sushi making and wrapping.
If this truly is the “Best Sushi in Topeka” then I can only advise the residents of this city to broaden their horizons.
Ultimately they had good sides but their sushi was well below par. The fish parts didn’t taste consistent and weren’t very good, the rolls w
Next I had the salmon roll which I loved! The rice to fish ratio was great and I was honestly surprised by the quality of the fish! I ended up getting 2 of these. I had the salmon nigiri next which had an odd shape to it but the fish was thick and again it was good quality!
The shrimp nigiri was fine, I wish I had order something else instead knowing now how generous the fish portions were. The shrimp tempura roll was amazing! Again another weird shape, it may have had a bit too much cucumber. The pieces were pretty unevenly cut which is mostly an aesthetic issue. The roll was still one of my favorites and I ended up getting a second one.
I also had the rainbow roll which had thick cuts of fish but too much cucumber it also had more rice than the other rolls. Too many pieces were just avocado on top for my taste. Overall suprisingly not my favorite, rainbow rolls are generally my favorite type.
My last roll was the black jack roll which did not have a lot of salmon, compared to everything else the salmon slices were very tiny but it had a surprising amount of eel. Honestly pretty decently balanced. Roll was falling apart when I picked it up though.
Very fast service my rolls were ready within 5-10 minutes. It was 2pm and not super packed which may have played into that
I was given the wrong price on my receipt originally (I got the dinner price) but when I pointed that out it was immediately fixed. The waitress didn’t want to share her name but she was great. She was attentive but not very talkative and she apologized for the incorrect price being given.
Overall 5/5 for $14.99 for lunch this place is a steal. I’ve never gotten such a good bang for my buck. I was not expecting it to be that good for the price and being this far into the interior of the country. I would absolutely return here and I recommend stopping by if you are in the area.
*An all you can eat for less than $25 bucks? What are you waiting on ?
*The customer service was amazing and everyone was welcoming.
*The food came out to us really fast!!
*Although it’s an all you can eat, you only have 2 hours and it is recommended that you eat everything you order because if I can remember there’s a fee if you don’t. so be wise.
Avocado Salad:
Honestly I was afraid to try it but it was surprisingly really good! I also loved the salad dressing they coated it with. Everything worked perfectly together as far as taste. However, this wouldn’t be something I eat on a daily but it was still good! 4/5
Gyoza Dumpling:
For me this wasn’t the best. It was my first time trying it so maybe that’s why the taste wasn’t really sitting. My friend seem to love it but I just didn’t. 2/5
Harumaki Spring Roll:
Woah woah woah . Spring rolls never disappoints! It was so flavorful too. 5/5
Vegetable Fried Rice:
I loved the rice itself…I just wished that the vegetable were a little more cooked. If the veggies were fully cooked it would’ve been bussin but it just wasn’t. 3/5
Mango Shrimp Sushi:
It has a very distinct taste . A strong one too and I honestly…… it didn’t sit right with me. I definitely did separate the mango from the sushi and tried to eat it separately but I still was tasting one on the other. It was giving summer vibe but not in the best appetizing way. 3/5
Salmon sushi: (raw)
I couldn’t I just couldn’t . I’m a huge fan of sushi but the raw ones are hard for me sometimes. The salmon has a moist chewy taste that I know some people wouldn’t be able to handle. I couldn’t handle it. It was too much for my tongue. 2/5
Tobiko:
I love me some caviar! 5/5
Godzilla:
This might’ve been my favorite one. The flavors were blending in so well. I loved eel sauce with it especially because it’s my favorite sauce.
I loved this restaurant everyone was so nice and they ensured to always check up on you. There was also someone near by always to answer your questions. Food was great as well as the service and it’s affordable.
Mizu Sushi & Hibachi All you can eat
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The bad. Unfortunately some of the fish was chewy. The white fish on the rainbow roll was so bad I was done eating when I bit into it.
