However ,It was cut . The meat was over cooked and dry. When I complained about it to the restaurant they said they had a new line cook who over fried it. Next time they will not make the same mistake . As if I will go there again.
Unfortunately, this turned out to be a big mistake. Almost all the food was cold, except for the. Pakoras, Which were mildly warm. The tandoori chicken was dry, hard and lacked flavor. The daal, muttar paneer, and other dishes were similarly cold and tasteless.
While the wings and malai boti had decent flavor, They were also cold. The biryani was OK but again not warm. The dessert was particularly disappointing, and the only item that somewhat worked was that the Dahi bhalla – Because it is meant to be served cold anyway.
Customer service was equally disappointing. I politely requested the staff at the front to warm my plate or the food, As the buffet dishes were clearly not warm. Their response was “the burners were on, and that the food was warm.”- Which it definitely wasn’t. When I asked if they could warm my plate in the microwave, she said she would check, but never followed up or returned. The owner, who overheard the conversation also showed no interest in resolving the issue.
We stayed for about 1.5 hours, hoping they would refresh the buffet with hot food. The only refill we saw was a tiny serving dish with a couple of tablespoons of biryani, which was disappointing for a buffet setting.
In addition to the food and service, the constant loud banging of utensils from the kitchen made the dining experience unpleasant. The noise continued throughout our visit and added to the overall discomfort.
In short buffet was a big letdown, poor customer service, unpleasant atmosphere.
I have heard that the à la carte menu might offer better quality, perhaps ordering individual dishes might be a better experience. But based on the buffet and overall visit, this is not a place I would return to or recommend for a buffet.
We tried a couple of the weekend specials , the Halwa Puri and the Nihari. The Halwa Puri, a typical breakfast delicacy presented itself in its shimmering glory. While the puris were a tad oily for my liking the vegetable and halwa were delicious.
But the Nihari stole the show. Succulent chunks of beef slow cooked in a rich thick sauce that was perfectly seasoned. This went perfectly with the naan straight from the tandoor.
One of the starts of the menu is the roomali roti. A bread not easily come by in the DMV area. It was made to perfection and went perfectly with the beef seekh kabab.
All the food was flavorful and perfectly seasoned and not overly spicy. The chicken yolks masala was rich , creamy and indulgent. The Dum chicken biryani was well balanced .
All in all an excellent find . A true hidden gem. Definitely a do over!
Highlights from the menu include the butter chicken, biryani, kebab rolls, nihari, haleem, and the freshly made rumali roti. The weekend specials, nihari and halwa puri, are especially in demand. Although we haven’t sampled the buffet or most desserts, the khoobani ka meetha stands out as truly exceptional. The staff and owners are genuinely friendly and engaging, enhancing the restaurant’s welcoming atmosphere.
Owned by a family from Delhi, Miyaji evokes fond memories of the legendary Karim Hotel in Chandni Chowk, Delhi. As a student at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Ansari Nagar, I would make the long trip of over an hour by DTC bus, with lengthy walks at both ends, to savor a meal at Karim’s. Miyaji’s flavors instantly transported me back to those cherished experiences.
In sum, Miyaji is a dependable destination for authentic Indo-Pak cuisine, offering rich flavors, gracious service, and an inviting, family-friendly environment.
Though the restaurant hours are until 9.30pm we tried ordering chai at 9.15pm but they said sorry our kitchen is closed 🙁
Every Christmas break, we are in Gaithersburg, and we end up at Miyaji’s twice in those 8-10 days! That’s how much we all love it, especially the kids, who are a fan of their butter chicken. Our favorites are the butter chicken, of course, the tandoori, chicken tikka, and kebab rolls, accompanied with rumali roti and garlic naan. Their weekend special is nihari, haleem, and halwa puri combo, which we were lucky to try on each of our visit. Every dish is bursting with flavors and finger licking delicious This visit we ended up chatting with the owners and were hoenst about how much our kids love their place! Before we left, they were kind enough to offer us some complementary gajar ka halwa and kheer ❤️
The finale to our meal was their masala and kashmiri chai.
This place is a must visit for genuinely tasty Indian/Pakistani food!!
I have no decent pics of the food because everyone just went at it as soon as it came
Update : we went back again and clicked pics this time!!
