I liked everything. If you like uni, I think this is one of the better places for variety. Nice enough for a date, but also casual enough to go in shorts.

Miyabi Uni – A Decent Uni-Themed Japanese Restaurant in Torrance

Located in Torrance, Miyabi Uni is a Japanese restaurant that stands out with its sea urchin-themed decor, including several sea urchin models on the wall that emphasize its specialty—uni. The menu offers multiple uni options, from appetizers to main dishes, with choices between local uni and Santa Barbara uni.

We started with the Miyabi Oyster, which came topped with uni and caviar—a fresh, flavorful bite that highlighted the quality of the ingredients. The House Uni Donburi was a generous bowl of rice topped with uni, seaweed, and vegetables. However, it also included lemon slices and chopped wasabi, which might be worth picking out some before mixing the bowl if you prefer a more traditional uni experience.

Additionally, we tried the Uni Aglio e Olio Pasta, a combination of pasta, uni, and fried garlic slices. Unfortunately, it was too oily, and the flavors of the pasta and uni felt disconnected, making it less enjoyable compared to other dishes.

The staff here are friendly, and the chef even personally checked in on our dining experience, which was a nice touch. However, only indoor dining is available, meaning it’s not a dog-friendly restaurant. If you’re an uni lover, it’s worth checking out—just be mindful of your dish selection!

Uni/sea urchin specialized restaurant. So if you love uni, this is the go to place! And yes order everything anything with uni on it. There was one other restaurant in Gardena but they closed which I’m ok with because this one is the better priced, more generous portion, and more creative dishes. The most creative dish for me is the Uni Garlic Capane because you have the crispy texture of the toast that juxtaposition the soft melty texture of the uni with the savory taste complementing the oil they used and then topping it off with the crunchy fried garlic that brings out the uni taste even more. I love Japanese omelet. But lots of places have the consistency off making it too runny or they overcook the eggs. So imagine this place cooking the best Japanese omelet eggs and adding the perfect portion of creamy uni inside. It’s like eating a delicious dream. Go get your uni! Oh and the desserts. The perfectly not too sweet but so balanced savory Japanese desserts like the ones in Tokyo. You must get the uni miso soup of course cause where else can you have uni miso soup?

If you’re looking for an uni paradise, look no further and go to Miyabi Uni in Torrance. So many dishes with uni in them! What a great spot! Here’s what we ordered:

– Miyabi Uni Original, $32.95 (rate 4.5/5): this is their uni cream pasta that they’re famous for. It’s a spectacular dish – red chili spaghetti topped with fresh uni. We wanted to try the Original before we try the Premium Uni Cream Pasta, which is fettuccine with Santa Barbara uni and truffle butter cream sauce topped with Hokkaido uni for $50.25.

– Uni Tamagoyaki, $15.50 (rate 5/5): this was surprisingly the dish we were most impressed by. It’s so simple – tamagoyaki with uni inside. Order this.

– Miyabi Kaisen, $34.95 for small (rate 4/5): this chirashi bowl with uni on top is delicious. We would prob order the large ($49.95) next time as the small was way more rice than slices of fish. Still tasted great though!

– Miyabi Oysters, $18.25 (rate 4/5): a little pricey for 2 oysters topped with uni, salmon roe, and caviar, but delicious nonetheless. We will prob try the Miyabi Uni Shooters next time to compare.

– Fried oysters, (rate 4.5/5): these are on happy hour menu if you go on the weekdays. Order them, they’re delicious.

– Fried geso, squid legs, (rate 4/5): these are also on happy hour menu on the weekdays. Delicious quick appetizer.

There were so many other things we wanted to try from the menu, including the Uni Garlic Canape (uni on grilled toast), Toro and Uni Wrap, etc. Will definitely visit again if we are back in the Torrance area. The staff was very accommodating of us as well as we got there late (around 815pm) and they close on weekdays at 9pm (weekends 930pm). Ample garage parking as well.

Truly amazing high-quality sushi & sashimi. Prices near high-end, but the quality out shines 99% of the hipster beachy marginal quality sushi joints in South Bay. Well worth the money! Try the Toro w Uni or Premium Sashimi. Even the Uni Pasta Rocks the house!!! Be sure to make a reservation on weekends.

A must-visit for uni lovers! Every dish was delicious and service was excellent. The uni donburi was my favorite, and all of the sushi was fresh and expertly prepared. They also have great HH deals. Also convenient free parking in the garage

I was really excited to try this restaurant. The reviews looked good. I love fresh fish. I hope they can get better, and while I feel bad writing this review. I hope they improve, I probably would not come back.

First, the green tea was weak and tasted like metallic tap water. The butterfish had so many bones. Which okay, I know sometimes fish have bones, but this was an excessive amount for restaurant quality in though. I could say that the butterfish was just okay.

Also ordered the chef’s choice sushi plate. Again it was okay.

And the toro had a fishy taste. I fish, so I know what good fish should taste like. The fish did not taste fresh.

Halfway through our meal the staff decided to start cleaning with heavy detergent making food taste like cleaning fluid. It felt like I inhaled it and it felt like I had this horrible taste in my mouth for like 30 minutes after leaving the restaurant.

Miyabi Uni is a Japanese restaurant in the Torrance area best known for serving fresh sea urchin (aka “uni”) dishes. Servers are not the friendliest type, but they are not hostile either. Set lunch is of good quality. Highly recommend the super fresh Kumiai Oysters from Baja California, and the sea urchin pastas “Uni Aglio e Olio” and “Miyabi Uni Original”.

This place is such a hidden gem! In a cute little shopping center you can barely see off the main road that I’ve passed a million times and never knew was there. Some of the best, freshest, most glorious sushi and uni dishes I’ve ever had! Seriously try this place immediately! Beautiful interior and great service, but the food was the star!
