If there’s a Black/African-owned restaurant you’re looking to support, pull up to Miya Lounge & Restaurant. I went once in 2020 and once again recently.

Here are some thoughts about what I know about Miya Lounge and my experience:

So the name of the restaurant is misleading because I think often times when people hear ‘lounge’ they think of a place that has alcohol/hookah. This place has neither.

If you truly care about good food and not the aesthetics at all, then you will really enjoy this place. It’s definitely more of a carryout spot, but there are plenty of tables and seats to sit at if you want to relax. I will say, if you also want your food quickly, call in your order first, because you are not going to receive it quickly (the dishes definitely take time to prepare).

When it comes to the food, they definitely have some of the best suya in the area. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the suya tacos though. I think the cheese takes away from the flavor of the suya and when it comes to jollof rice, I think it could use more flavor and spice, but I may be biased because I’m Nigerian lol.

The suya pizza was a fish suya pizza and it was really good. It was not fishy at all and had good flavor. The goat pepper soup was delicious. The goat was nice and tender. I also really liked the eru and now am wishing I put more on my plate.

When I come back, I also really want to try the grilled fish because it looks so good

Good People!! This West African spot sent a message out on their Instagram in hopes to get some foot traffic. They are at risk of shutting down. When I saw that..pulled up!! I’m with @cousinkim_ & @leauxlaa too!!

Items Reviewed:
Their Cameroonian Beverages
The Passionfruit Ginger Beer ($5). DELICIOUS! Spicy, good.
The Passionfruit Soda ($10). STAMP!! Sweet, fruity, refreshing!!
The Sorrel Soda ($5). DELICIOUS!! It didn’t taste like sorrel, but it was carbonated.

Their Spicy Chicken (with onions, spicy pepper sauce, & Jollof rice $12.99). LIKE THAT!! The pepper sauce is HOT SPICY HOT!! But it didn’t take away from the taste of the chicken!

The Jollof Rice ($7.99). DECENT. Good, I just needed it to be spicer.

Their Pepper Soup Goat (with boiled yams, & spices $14.99). Cousin Kim STAMPED it…but she said get it spicy!!

Their Suya Pizza (with mozzarella, a Suya marinara, pepper sauce, onions, & spinach $14.99). STAMP!! Surprised? ME TOO!! These ingredients blended perfectly together!! Buttery, rich, meaty, & mildly spicy!! MUST HAVE!!

Their Suya Tacos (with beef, onions, cheese, jollof rice, & a spicy aioli $15). LIKE THAT!! Meaty, well spiced, but I’d leave the cheese off.

Their Eru & Lamb Fufu (with Eru-a vegetable soup made of Okazi leaves, lamb, & Fufu-a handheld mashed potato food $24.99). LIKE THAT!! The hearty tastefully bitter’ish soup, soft Fufu, and meaty lamb.

The food was a 10/10. My fiancé and I both had the beef suya bowls which included jollof rice, collard greens, spinach and plantains, soooo delicious! Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back for the egusi soup and suya pizza.

Not the fanciest of restaurants..but food was ok. we got the whole fish ..rice..plantains(precooked warmed up).. sauteed spinach (good). And my suya pizza was cheesy and tastes good. Some of the cuts of suya was just fat pieces..next time make sure majority of the meat is not fatty pieces. Waitress was subpar..but hey .. Food took a while to come.out..i can only imagine if they are busy how long it take….

We had a party of four people, the only clients in the restaurant at the time. It took over 2hrs to serve us achu. All drinks we asked for were sold out. Customer service was so poor. Staff would not respond to questions. Let me actually reduce your star for the rude response. I just read every review on your page and it’s negative. Instead to correct customer complaints, you are chasing them with rude responses. To top it up, we refused to pay for our food? So the American express card you collected, was that from your village?

Ordered to go and my meal was ready in no time. Always highly recommended! The customer service is exceptional and luckily I went in at a quiet time. I ordered the Ekwang and Eru with Garri. I also loved that they asked me if I wanted pepper and did not assume by dumping it in the food. I have been to a lot of African places that do this and it is so not appreciated. Will be back!

I was craving Achu and after searching online, I found out I could order at Miya. The Achu was good and satisfied my cravings . 4 stars because there was no air condition and the price online did not match the price in store. I had their suya years back and it was great. I’ll go again probably for Ekwang, follow rice and suya……

Being from out of town this was a pleasant surprise! The menu was filled with African dishes that are very popular. The price is fair especially because of the portions they give. My suya tacos were good and a delightful. I highly recommended stopping in for a midday meal.
