The pancakes & ham steaks are both the size of hubcaps…and super tasty(5*)!! Burgers are great(we had a patty melt-it was perfect, 5*), pot roast was ok(not a favorite-but not bad-kids just prefer mine 3.5*), MonteCristo was great(first time kids tried it-wish they gave us raspberry/strawberry jam-but likely available if you eat in 4.5*), patty sausage is fresh & amazing(does not taste like grocery sausage-its either farm fresh or made in house 5*), bacon is thick cut & amazing(5*)!, eggs were good, tasted farm fresh(scrambled stirred more than we would like(small curd) 3*, but fried were perfection 5*), Broccoli cheese soup was amongst the best weve ever had(5*), Reuben was great-good saurkraut used, fried mushrooms & green beans were amazing(5*)!! Zucchini was good(3*)-but a bit soggy(could have been this time-willing to try again), chicken fried steak was unique-but likely wouldnt order again(3*), biscuits & gravy were good with homemade biscuits, wish the gravy was a smidge thicker-just preference(4.5*)!!! Hamburger steak was eh, good, just a bit over cooked(we ordered med, it was well & a bit dry & we did not get the fried onions on top to compensate, but that happens-especially with a large order), 3.5*, and finally the hashbrowns were good-although a bit inconsistent, we got half golden crispy perfection & half dark brown crispy(bit of a burnt taste)-but again, likely due to the size of our order(5* & 3.75*)
My ONLY complaint, we ordered & paid extra to add hashbrowns to our pancake orders(3 of them), but didnt get them-&didnt know until we got home. Again, big order, not typical, that would not prevent me from going back!!
The kids have asked if we can order from Mitchell’s at least once a month…that’s a firm YES!! So glad we found this local gem!!
Ham steak was nice and salty.
Sourdough yummy.
Eggs were cooked perfectly to order same with the tasty crispy hash browns.
Gravy was good not heavy like most country gravy. Will be back to try more on the menu!
Biscuit looked unique but had a very fresh homemade taste, you will not be disappointed!
Wish they had nicer jam and hotter coffee.
P.s. the bathrooms are located in the gas station.
We (party of 3) arrived around 6:30pm on a Saturday night. The restaurant was about a quarter full. A server let us know we could seat ourselves wherever we wanted.
The restaurant was very plain. The tables and chairs were no-frills. Our table had advertisements plastered all over it. Each table had salt and pepper, sugar (and alternatives), and coffee creamer. Whiteboards announced the day’s specials. There was a family with young children running about in one corner and an elderly gentleman with a cowboy’s hat in another. I definitely felt the homestyle-ness of it all.
We ordered the mushrooms, bowl of soup of the day, and dinner salad for appetizers. We did the Chili Burger and Yankee Pot Roast Dinner with tots and the Shrimp and Fish combo with fries for our entrees. The soup and salad were served quickly, less than 5 minutes after ordering, after which came the mushrooms and then (before we finished) the entrees.
The food was overall about what you’d expect from a place like this. The salad was plain lettuce with a pile of shredded American cheese ontop and Italian dressing (our choice). The soup, a beef and vegetable take, was savory and the meat was tender. Turns out they had just run out of it so our server apologetically gave it to us in a smaller cup size and told us she wouldn’t charge us for it. The mushrooms came piping hot and served with ranch. The batter was pretty thick and hard-crispy; the mushrooms themselves were small but juicy. The chili smothered burger was good. It was definitely messy. The chili tasted canned and lacked much spice. The patty, which I ordered medium-rare, turned out more medium, but still packed alot of grilled-meat flavor and juice, albeit lacking salt. The buns were over-toasted to a black color. The tater tots were hot, crispy, and good. The fried fish and shrimp batter was again thick, but paired nicely with the tartar sauce. The fries were more mushy than crispy. The vegetables served alongside were canned/frozen. The pot roast was hearty and smothered in a savory gravy. The vegetables and meat were tender. The portions were overall generously large given the relatively cheap prices (at least from the perspective of a city-dweller). We had to pack most of our tots, fries, and the mushrooms because we were so full.
Our waitress was polite and checked up on us frequently. Though not overly warm or friendly she satisfied our expectations.
I would overall recommend this spot for some quick and hearty grub. Definitely don’t be looking for anything fancy, though. No-frills is what it is.
