When asking people what the best burger in Montreal is, you’re likely to get a bunch of more modern and trendy burger places and a lot of those restaurants do have amazing burgers but Mr. Steer has the single best one: The Hero.

I’ve never tasted a meat patty so good that you could have it by itself and still be satisfied. It’s super thick and always cooked to perfection. EVERY BITE is heaven. The “suzie Q” fries you get alongside it are amazing as well.

If you’re also gonna get a poutine, their “Tex-Mex” is one of the best I’ve ever had. The only bad thing I have to say is that the price is too much. 22$ for a poutine is unacceptable.

I’d be in trouble if I lived near this place… 10/10

We were seated quickly. Service was great.
The food was nice, especially the burger meat. The fries were good and different from other places, but not seasoned or barely.
With construction work happening on the street, it s best to use public transit or go straight to an indoor parking if using car.

Mister Steer is a true gem for anyone craving vintage Montreal vibes and comfort food done right. From the retro decor to the friendly service, everything about this place feels like a nostalgic throwback—in the best way possible.

The menu is extensive with something for everyone, but let’s be honest—you’re here for the burger. Their signature Steerburger has earned its reputation as “the best burger in the world,” and it really lives up to the hype: juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked every time.

Prices are super reasonable for the quality and portions. And don’t skip the famous Suzie Q fries—they’re crispy, curly, and the perfect sidekick to any meal.

Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Mister Steer is a must-visit spot that captures the heart (and appetite) of Montreal.

Mr. Steer is a true gem if you’re looking for that classic, authentic vibe! Walking in feels like a step back in time in the best way possible, with an atmosphere that’s all about keeping things real and old-school. The menu delivers exactly what you’d hope for—delicious, hearty food that feels comforting and genuine.

Their steak is spot-on, cooked just right with that rich, savory flavor that’s hard to beat. And the milkshakes? So thick, creamy, and absolutely indulgent! They really don’t make them like this anymore. To top it off, their sundaes are the perfect throwback dessert, piled with just the right amount of toppings to make you feel like a kid again. Mr. Steer nails that nostalgic, good-tasting experience that’s rare to find these days. Definitely worth a visit!

Quick weeknight dinner for two. Had the Mr. Steerburger (1/4 pound) with coleslaw and a small Coke. Food and service were very good, but $24 (including tax but not tip) is too expensive for what I got. A side of cole slaw was $5.95 and a small coke was $4.95, which is excessive (They charge $9.55 for a mug of draft beer (not a pint, which is $12.55, which is more expensive than almost any bar in town),$4.95 for coffee and $7.55 for a glass of tomato juice, so they are clearly gouging on drink prices). The resto was practically empty too at 7PM! Good food at an iconic and nostalgic Montreal spot, but bang for your buck, it’s not worth it!

This fabulous downtown diner has, by far, one of the best juicy burgers in Montreal.
Been here multiple times in the past ten years and every time, the same high quality food, and service along with a nice North American diner vibe.
And the prices are very reasonable!
This place has to be on everyone’s list IMHO

Our service was fantastic, polite, engaging and prompt. The atmosphere was kinda neat, felt like an old school diner. My boy said he enjoyed his poutine as we grabbed a light snack on the way through.

Mr. Steer is a nostalgic gem, serving up classic, hearty flavors in a timeless setting. Their steak is cooked to perfection, rich and savory, while Canadian beer complements the meal perfectly. The bean soup adds warmth and depth, making it a must-visit for an authentic, old-school dining experience!
