The only issue came at the end when we received the bill and noticed a 20% service charge had already been added. Wanting to take care of our server, we also left an additional 30% tip, which brought the total to 50% extra.
It feels a bit misleading and excessive for restaurants to add a large service charge like this instead of simply paying their staff fairly and allowing customers to tip normally. The staff were great and deserve to be compensated well, but the policy itself left us feeling a bit taken advantage of.
I’d absolutely recommend the food and the service, but I think the restaurant should be more transparent about the service charge or reconsider the approach.
I visited on January 27th close to closing time and received shockingly poor service. The restaurant was nearly empty—only two tables occupied (w/ couples)—and there was only one waitress on the floor. When we walked in, she was engaged in a long conversation with another table. We were seated directly behind them and were completely ignored for over 15 minutes.
She clearly saw us enter and never greeted us, offered water, or acknowledged us in any way. The bartender eventually seated us, yet the waitress continued chatting instead of doing her job. I attempted multiple times to get her attention; she made eye contact with me and still chose to ignore us. Meanwhile, every other table already had food.
We were not even offered water. At that point, I couldn’t help but question whether we were being treated this way because I am Black. I finally had to walk up to the bar and explain the situation. When asked to take our order, she did—only after realizing the bartender was helping us. When she eventually came to our table, there was no apology. When I told her we had already ordered with the bartender, her response was, “That’s better for me.” Completely unprofessional and disrespectful.
To make matters worse, a 20% service charge was added for two people, despite the fact that she provided no service at all and clearly anticipated receiving no tip. This experience was unacceptable from start to finish.
Management needs to take this seriously. No customer should ever be treated this way. I will never return and will absolutely warn others to avoid this establishment. All we did was walk in expecting basic service—and were treated with outright disregard
I don’t feel that all the dishes are for sharing, particularly the tacos. We found the portions quite small and a couple of us were still hungry after.
A 20% gratuity is automatically added to your bill, so there is no need to tip, unless you truly feel it’s warranted.
