The Wonka tea was a winner with its range of chocolate goodies, ranging from chocolate covered strawberries to a truly excellent slice of chocolate cake (that was also featured in the classic tea) right down to a solid chocolate spoon for stirring the chocolate flavored tea (you could also opt for hot chocolate instead of the tea).
The classic tea was a bit more uneven, with the chicken salad sandwich and an unusual sweet potato sandwich featuring bacon jam and pepper jelly being quite good, while the thick sliced radish and cucumber sandwiches could do with refining of presentation (nobody really likes a thick slab of radish with the skin left on) and more flavor. Even a little extra salt would help.
There are many varieties of tea to choose from for your classic tea and they were uniformly excellent.
Service is leisurely, allowing time to relax and socialize, which is, after all, the point of afternoon tea. We never felt rushed and service was unobtrusive but professional. Our server quickly provided additional hot water for the pots and generally made us feel welcomed and well cared for.
Overall, a very pleasant experience.
We finally get a table and order but the waitress is overly friendly the entire time. She was up in everyone’s business. She insisted that the other tables go take a photo outside and she would go take it for you. It was awkward. Well we get our afternoon tea with all the sandwiches. The chicken salad is blah, then there was a piece of bread with 3 cucumbers on it and some hummus. The sandwiches were underwhelming. The desserts were a little better with a s’mores brownie, blueberry scone, macaroon, and lemon bar. The tea was actually very good and didn’t need sugar. Every interaction with the waitress was odd and made us feel weird.
The decor was odd – like gothic and great Gadsby at the same time. The room is literally an open room. There are no signs on the outside or walking in. You have to walk through an overpriced bookstore and up the stairs. No signing at all. The bookstore employees directed us where to go. Overall, very disappointing. Two stars because the dessert was ok. But $40 for a couple bites of generic food is not worth it. There was nothing special, the food was blah, and the service was awkward.
We arrived a bit after 11am for the supposed walk in hours of 11-3pm the tea room was dark and not ready for serving.
We waited a bit and then were seated. Our server didn’t know what seasonal items they were offering. I got the chicken salad on mini croissants, came with a few grapes and piece of a pickle. It was good but, certainly not worth $15.
The dessert plate wasn’t good most things taste stale/old.
The tea selection was good and would be the only thing I would try again still fairly expensive for a not great atmosphere. We were there a few hours and no one else came in the whole time.
I recently visited this teahouse for a special themed tea event and while the staff were absolutely wonderful—attentive, kind, and impressively accommodating when it came to my food allergies—the overall experience left a bit to be desired.
Let’s start with the positives: the service was truly top-notch. The staff made every effort to ensure I felt safe and welcome, double-checking ingredients and making thoughtful substitutions where needed. In an era where food allergies are often brushed off or misunderstood, this level of care was deeply appreciated.
Unfortunately, the ambiance didn’t match the warmth of the service. The space felt more like a generic hotel banquet room than a cozy, charming teahouse. It lacked the kind of decor and atmosphere that usually makes afternoon tea feel special or transportive.
As for the themed event, it was a nice idea in theory—but poorly executed. Aside from some creatively named menu items, there was little to no effort to carry the theme through the tea blends, presentation, or decor. It felt like a missed opportunity to create an immersive experience.
The food itself was fine, but not memorable. Compared to other coffee shops and bakeries in town, both the flavor and presentation were underwhelming. Nothing was particularly bad, but nothing stood out either—and for the price and concept, I had hoped for more.
All in all, I’d come back if I were in the area and wanted to support a place with kind-hearted, allergy-aware staff—but for a true yummy food experience, I’d recommend trying one of the more atmospheric and flavorful options elsewhere in town.
Also the owner pays a living wage with shared tips. Very progressive!
