Really Top Tier.
It was so good, we went back the next day for the fix prix menu for Valentine’s Day. We took our time, and our waiter patiently waited for us to tell them when it was time to bring the next course.
And of course, the chef and owner Marty is just the best.

I have eaten at Mise en Place when it was in Tampa. Last night I tried the new location in Ybor.
Great food driven by a chef who cooks like a crazy abstract artist. Amazing flavors and layers of complexity that somehow come together to taste fantastic. Pears in a chicken liver pâté? No way. It tasted unlike any pâté my jaundiced palate has encountered in years. I wanted to lick the bowl.
The restaurant is located a block or so from the main drag. It has parking across the street and sits right on a trolley stop, if you are interested.
From the initial greeting to the moment we left, we were genuinely cared for with attention and interest. Our waiter, Johnny, was excellent. He gave us a tour of the menu and even offered a taste of a wine I was unsure about.
We started with the special appetizer, the pâté, which they should absolutely keep on the menu. The Korean crab shrimp scallion pancake was delicious. It was a cross between a fluffy pancake and bread, absolutely oozing with flavor and subtle spice. Incredible. I was ready to stop right there. Two for two is good going in Ybor.
Then came the entrées, duck and fluke. Both were terrific. The duck was tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The chef had added an extra sprinkle of salt on the skin, which made all the difference. There is no salt or pepper on the tables, and you can taste why. My only gripe of the entire evening was the brussel sprouts, which were attempting to redefine “still crunchy,” but I am English and we are very prissy about sprouts.
It was my birthday, so we enjoyed a flourless espresso cake and a very good decaf cappaccino to go with it.
After all this goodness, I expected my credit card to take a beating, but surprisingly it did not. For two appetizers, two entrées, a dessert, four glasses of wine, and two coffees, the damage was a very reasonable $110 per person.
We walked out feeling full, satisfied, and already wanting to go back soon.
Parking garage ($2 and hour) is across the street.
We sat at the bar top and Gary, watch extremely helpful in selecting cocktail mixes. We usually sit at the bar top and it was very comfortable and inviting.
The entrees, were as expected, excellent. My wife’s salmon entree, unfortunately was not made to order( medium rare) but more to the well side. Although it still was very tasty. However, my lamb was perfect, cooked two medium rare season perfectly with a side of grits and green beans. The food was just phenomenal.
I’ll definitely be coming back and it makes it so much more convenient now that they are in Ybor City.
5 stars for presentation of the food.
5 stars for service too.
Breads & the dipping sauce was amazing.
Appetizer: Ordered Tuna Carpaccio. Tasted real fresh & very flavorful.
However, the main course was somewhat disappointing. I ordered the wagyu burger just out of curiosity to try it. The patty was good. But, overall the bun was too thick & I would taste more bread than other flavors.
Salmon was cooked well but, again was missing the flavor.
Also for such a high end place to charge extra to pay with credit card is a frowned upon!
Marty is a genius level chef, we enjoy the stellar meal.
Mise en place has been a staple of the South Tampa neighborhoods as far as find restaurants for many years. They have recently moved to 8th avenue in ybor City and the place is beautiful.
Comfortable and inviting and we are so glad it’s closer.
