The perks of being friends with the chef we tried everything. Lamb (incredible!!), Elk, Duck soup, Boar ragu (my favorite), biscuits that beat Paula Dean’s and impeccable service! Cocktails were top tier, both reservations were met early, table continuously cleaned, water refilled without me ever noticing. The hospitality was really very good!
Really Top Tier.
It was so good, we went back the next day for the fix prix menu for Valentine’s Day. We took our time, and our waiter patiently waited for us to tell them when it was time to bring the next course.
And of course, the chef and owner Marty is just the best.

Mise en Place feels less like a restaurant and more like a working art studio where the medium happens to be food!

I have eaten at Mise en Place when it was in Tampa. Last night I tried the new location in Ybor.

Great food driven by a chef who cooks like a crazy abstract artist. Amazing flavors and layers of complexity that somehow come together to taste fantastic. Pears in a chicken liver pâté? No way. It tasted unlike any pâté my jaundiced palate has encountered in years. I wanted to lick the bowl.

The restaurant is located a block or so from the main drag. It has parking across the street and sits right on a trolley stop, if you are interested.

From the initial greeting to the moment we left, we were genuinely cared for with attention and interest. Our waiter, Johnny, was excellent. He gave us a tour of the menu and even offered a taste of a wine I was unsure about.

We started with the special appetizer, the pâté, which they should absolutely keep on the menu. The Korean crab shrimp scallion pancake was delicious. It was a cross between a fluffy pancake and bread, absolutely oozing with flavor and subtle spice. Incredible. I was ready to stop right there. Two for two is good going in Ybor.

Then came the entrées, duck and fluke. Both were terrific. The duck was tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The chef had added an extra sprinkle of salt on the skin, which made all the difference. There is no salt or pepper on the tables, and you can taste why. My only gripe of the entire evening was the brussel sprouts, which were attempting to redefine “still crunchy,” but I am English and we are very prissy about sprouts.

It was my birthday, so we enjoyed a flourless espresso cake and a very good decaf cappaccino to go with it.

After all this goodness, I expected my credit card to take a beating, but surprisingly it did not. For two appetizers, two entrées, a dessert, four glasses of wine, and two coffees, the damage was a very reasonable $110 per person.

We walked out feeling full, satisfied, and already wanting to go back soon.

Mise en Place is back open for Lunch and weekend Brunch. Some crowd favorites mixed with some new creations from Chef Marty. Definitely go for the Smoked Duck Club and Pork Tenderloin with sweet potato and yucca ragout. The Vadouvan(curry) tofu and lentil dish was a surprising standout for entrees.

The restaurant moved to Ybor recently, but food and service are still good. 38 years in buiseness means something. Not disappointed. Try desert if you have space.
Parking garage ($2 and hour) is across the street.

It seems like mediocre or average is gonna be the same for this place. The greeting was nice but everything else after that was average. The ambience in space is liking sophistication and shake. The cocktails were blah with liking creativity. The charcuterie board was not arranged very well the meat quality was mediocre, and it looked like a high school project as far as the dinner. The temperature of food was look warm, not hot. The flavors were OK. the lamb chops were rough indicating that the cut of meat was old or cheap. Waiter forgot one of our drinks all the way to the end of the dinner and never even brought it to us . Although everyone was attentive and ere constantly checking on us I would not recommend this place. There are much better restaurants where you can get better quality food with more creativity for the amount of price you’re gonna pay for food here. Honestly putting and onion ring on rack of lamb is not making it a fusion . There are young creative talents out there and they serve better food.

My wife and just absolutely love everything about Mice En Place!!! We first started coming here when I got my wedding suit made next door to their old location. We had the pleasure to dine during their soft opening and were not let down. The service here is second to none, the flavors of the dishes linger in the most pleasant way, and cocktails… well top shelf would be an understatement! Although they could not open in time for our anniversary dinner they were able to make sure we got in for the soft opening. Again, we just love this place!!!

Arrived at the restaurant on their second night of opening at their new Ybor City location. I was thoroughly impressed with the absolute fantastic ambiance and decor. If you want to get away from the chaos of Ybor and have a nice relaxing dinner, this is definitely the place(there really no other experience in Ybor like it). The decor and lightning sets the stage for engaging conversation and a relaxing mood.

We sat at the bar top and Gary, watch extremely helpful in selecting cocktail mixes. We usually sit at the bar top and it was very comfortable and inviting.

The entrees, were as expected, excellent. My wife’s salmon entree, unfortunately was not made to order( medium rare) but more to the well side. Although it still was very tasty. However, my lamb was perfect, cooked two medium rare season perfectly with a side of grits and green beans. The food was just phenomenal.

I’ll definitely be coming back and it makes it so much more convenient now that they are in Ybor City.

Had been wanting to go to the restaurant for a while. Ate at their cafe at TPA airport handful of times & it’s pretty good for airport restaurant. Was expecting better from the main restaurant.

5 stars for presentation of the food.
5 stars for service too.

Breads & the dipping sauce was amazing.

Appetizer: Ordered Tuna Carpaccio. Tasted real fresh & very flavorful.

However, the main course was somewhat disappointing. I ordered the wagyu burger just out of curiosity to try it. The patty was good. But, overall the bun was too thick & I would taste more bread than other flavors.

Salmon was cooked well but, again was missing the flavor.

Also for such a high end place to charge extra to pay with credit card is a frowned upon!

Marianne and Rusty have an absolute excellent sense of the restaurant business.
Marty is a genius level chef, we enjoy the stellar meal.
Mise en place has been a staple of the South Tampa neighborhoods as far as find restaurants for many years. They have recently moved to 8th avenue in ybor City and the place is beautiful.
Comfortable and inviting and we are so glad it’s closer.
