Reviews
The fusion is done perfectly, respecting Peruvian flavors while adding a refined Japanese touch. You can really taste the quality and care in every plate.
On top of that, the atmosphere is warm, cozy, and friendly, making you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. It’s the kind of place you want to come back to again and again.
Highly recommended — a must-try for anyone who loves Peruvian food or is looking for an unforgettable dining experience.
Service: 5/5
Ambiance: 4/5
The service here was phenomenal, but the food experience was mixed.
Market Oysters – 3.75/5: Good overall, but a bit fishy if you don’t add enough lime
Calamari – 2.75/5: Looked amazing, but the batter tasted old and made the whole dish feel off. The potatoes on the side weren’t great either
Ceviche Minka Nikkei – 4.5/5: loved this!! super flavorful and easily one of the highlights
Hokkaido Scallop Crudo – 4.25/5: Fresh and tasty, but a little too heavy on the onions for my preference
Paella – 4.25/5: My partner loved it, good seafood to rice ratio and well cooked. For me, it had too much cilantro, and the portion was on the smaller side
Skirt Steak – 4.75/5: My favorite dish of the night. Perfectly cooked steak, delicious flavor, great mashed potatoes, and the Shanghai veggie were nicely charred
We loved the Ceviche Minka Nikkei with mahi mahi and bright aji amarillo, and the Hokkaido Scallop Crudo was incredibly fresh and silky. The Nigiri Nikkei Plate brought such a fun twist on traditional sushi, and the Miso Glazed Halibut was perfectly cooked with that rich miso butter sauce. The Seco Norteño (braised short rib) was melt-in-your-mouth good.
It’s family-owned, BYOB, and the atmosphere feels cozy yet elevated the kind of spot you instantly want to come back to. Bring your own wine or make a mocktail everything here pairs beautifully. Highly recommend!
Tucked away in Cliffside Park, a delicious Peruvian restaurant! Everything was amazing but the scallops and the potatoes were the most memorable.
Definitely recommend stopping by at least once ☺️
Will def go back to try more dishes.
Went back to Minka Nikkei for my mom’s birthday this time, and had another delicious evening! Paz remembered us as well! She’s THE BEST. The food was AMAZING as usual but Paz really pushes the atmosphere and experience over the top!
We had the Yuca Frita, Chicken Yakitori, and Crispy Calamari again, and they were all as delicious as the first time. New dishes ordered included:
Papas Bravas – the sauces make the dish! The potatoes were hearty and held up to the sauces and retained their crispness
Bluefin Tuna Tiradito – so fresh and clean with a beautiful presentation! You can see and taste the quality of the fish and it is complimented well with the furikake, passionfruit and rice crackers
Tebasaki Chicken Wings – big, meaty, tender wings! Cooked to perfection and served with a killer black pepper miso sauce. Sooo much umami
Octopus Yaki – STUNNING presentation. Tender and not rubbery at all, and seasoned perfectly so you can appreciate the octopus
Chirashi & Ceviche – looked small but was mighty! Filling dish that included a variety of seafood over rice with a bright tiger’s milk sauce
Miso Grilled Cabbage – it takes a little longer to cook, but BOYYYYY WAS IT WORTH IT!!! It is also a pretty big portion (half cabbage!). The sauce makes the dish but the cabbage itself is brilliant! Tender, steamy, but not falling apart, this dish is very much worth the wait.
Thank you Paz and the team at Minka Nikkei for another night of yummy food, great company, and memories!!!

Wow. Let’s start there. I haven’t had a dining experience like I had at Minka Nikkei in a whiiiile! I was here for my birthday dinner with my family and as our server Paz said when I asked “what’s good here that you recommend?” the answer she gave was “everything.” Granted, this is her job so she “should” say that right? But homegirl don’t lie! Everything we had was delicious. We ordered:
Yuca Frita – crispy outside, fluffy smooth inside, and the huancaina sauce was amazing
Crispy Calamari – wasabi tartar sauce was a lovely complement to crisp, tender calamari and the little salad on the side was bright and refreshing
Steak Anticucho – the steak was a wonderfully tender bite, and the potatoes were delicious as well with the huancaina sauce
Chicken Yakitori – humble surprise, we ordered another one! The chicken is so tender and moist you don’t need teeth to eat it. The sauce is what elevates an already brilliantly cooked piece of meat
Arroz con Mariscos – beautiful presentation and ratio of seafood to rice. Everything cooked perfectly— not chewy or tough
Mochi – happy mochi in the tummy post meal! vanilla and strawberry flavors
Lucuma Ice Cream – Peruvian fruit that was delicious and refreshing. The quality of the ice cream was creamy, smooth, and the perfect texture. Everything in the bowl was licked clean
Crema Volteada – warm, smooth, and comforting. Flavors are well balanced and not too sweet
Paz, our server, elevated the experience x100. She gave a concise description of EVERY dish we ordered and was extremely friendly and helpful our whole time at the restaurant. Paz’s Auntie, if you’re reading this, you should be proud of your girl! She made the incredible food an even more enjoyable experience.
VERY happy with our meal here, and am confident to try more of the menu on our next visit!!!
