Hubby and I went for the buffet tonight. Food was very good. Had about 16 choices and between the two of us, we tried them all. Nothing I didn’t like. Staff were friendly. Will definitely make the drive from the west side of Lethbridge, to go again.

I recently visited Ming’s Garden Chinese Restaurant in Coaldale and had a mixed experience. The customer service was great, staff were friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which definitely stood out. Unfortunately, the food itself was disappointing and not very enjoyable. The buffet was quite small with limited choices, so there wasn’t much variety to pick from.

Overall, the service was the highlight of the visit, but the food quality and selection would need improvement for me to return.

We came in for a late lunch. I ordered Cantonese Chow Mein. It was not that. It was a bed of noodles, with snow peas, peppers and some pork. I sent it back and reordered the Ming Special Chow Mein. The staff was quick to resolve the issues I had. We ate sone of the fried rice, but did not touch the deep fried shrimp. We tipped as the staff was trying. This is your proverbial Canadian Chinese food (not really Chinese). They should revisit their menu and dishes or stick with the buffet.

Went for
Buffet meal today at 5:20 pm. Expecting to have all Buffet dishes prepared, filled, ready to serve customers. Several food containers were already empty , no fried rice, several.chicken dishes only a few bits in bottom, the owner said they had lots of take out orders to be filled ?? We were one of two tables with customers . We were told to “have soup, and take from what was there “
The buffet charges $20 per person. I was not prepared to pay that to scrape the bottom of a serving bin of what appeared to be a leftover from the afternoon, They brought out a very small amount of a couple of dishes. Not enough for the 8 people in the restaurant as it was instantly cleaned out again
Very disappointed and we won’t go back, I’ve tried a take out order and have had to be sat there waiting an hour after scheduled pick up time for my food,
These people seem to not be able to serve both
Take out order prep plus maintaining the flow of the Buffet food.

On Dec 21 we had an order for 6 people with a few side plates ordered for pick up at 4 PM. I ordered this 3 weeks in advance and confirmed the day prior that the order was confirmed. We had a large group of family attending our place for dinner.
Upon arrival for pick up we paid 188$ while continuing to wait the lady offered drinks while waiting we said well how much longer will it be, the lady said she didn’t know they had not started making it yet. We were really surprised by this because we confirmed the day in advance and 3 weeks earlier. We learned they had no even started making the order yet because they don’t open till 3 PM? The lady said “well do you want your food hot and cooked” we said yes but it was supposed to be ready at 4, they said there was no way an order would be ready for 4 because they don’t open till 3. Again confused and having people at our house we asked for a refund because they said it would be at least another hour or so putting it closer to 530/6PM
The lady did not want to refund the money because they just started making it. Again, we explained that someone should have phoned us or never confirmed a 4 PM order that couldn’t be fulfilled. Then the lady passed out behind the till.
Eventually we did get a refund and had to order from A1 pizza as a last minute solution to feed the family… I don’t think we will ever order from Mings again, the food is certainly good but the business staff and owners have no respect on fulfilling orders as promised.

With all the Chinese restaurant I’ve been to this place was honestly the worst, I placed an order and they gave me a time to come pick it up, by the time I got there it was 40 minutes late. They also fill the buffet very little so by the time even one or two tables are there the food is already gone and they have to make it again which is a ridiculous wait time since it takes ages for them to refill it. All the waitresses I saw looks miserable and genuinely just very young, I had a little boy who looked about 10 help me at the register. it’s not right! like child protective services anyone? It’s not cute it’s irresponsible parenting letting your child that young work, like I get it if it was a teenager but that boy is definitely a child. The whole place is just very unorganized and they don’t know what they’re doing.

2018: deep fried wontons i think only come with orders over $30, so make sure you order over $30!

Good food, we usually only do buffet with occasional take out. Order holiday food well in advance. Mothers day, fathers day, any kind of event like that will be taking supper orders 4-6 hours in advance.

Probably one of the best portion and taste wise, worth the drive to coaldale.

Edit: Aug/2025. So, since the new owners have taken over, the quality of service had gone downhill. Long waits for buffet refills plagued it for several years. Covid also hurt Ming’s.
So it’s sad to say that Ming’s on a Sunday buffet had only 6 tables full from 5-6pm. Most of the food is of near pre-covid quality. Also, they have upped their buffet refills game. Come on Coaldale, we need to give Ming’s another shot!

We came here for the buffet and as my husband was eating he found this hair in his rice, not to mention we also saw another longer hair on the buffet and there was hardly ANY fresh food on the buffet at 7pm. When we brought it up to the server she just walked away and then came and placed the bill on our table and didn’t say a word. She also did not take the food off the buffet where the hair was found. When we went up to the counter we quietly spoke (so all the other people waiting for takeout couldn’t hear us) and told the other server that we will not be paying for this meal, she was more kind and proceeded to go talk to “Lee” in the kitchen. Lee comes out and says “are these the bad people that put a hair in their food to try and get a discount”. Then the one server says, “well it’s a buffet what do you expect.” Needless to say we will NEVER be back here, do not eat at this place. Horrible service, disgusting food.

We visited on Sunday the 16 th. The restaurant is dated but otherwise it was fine. You could call it Retro. We arrived shortly after 4. Our server was very nice and very helpful, thank you again.
We were a table of 10 and even the kids had a good time. The food was hot, flavourful and plenty of it. Only 2 items on the buffet had MSG. Good food and no upset stomach issues… Win Win!
We shall be back.
